Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Role

The Clinical Nurse IV – Heart Catherization Lab role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes:

Physical assessments Nursing interventions Pain management Medication administrations Specimen collection Meeting nutritional needs Teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned

Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned.

Additionally, the Clinical Nurse IV meets the requirements outlined in the Clinical Ladder program respective to his/her department. The Clinical Nurse IV demonstrates a commitment to hospital involvement and professional growth by participating in committees, attending related meetings, and presenting education projects and/or supplemental activities.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Masters of Nursing (MSN) required. Four years’ nursing experience required. Additional requirements for specific departments are as follows: Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI): Experience in cardiac telemetry required. Five years’ experience in HVI area of specialty. Successful completion of ECG test required.

License Required

Registered Nurse in the State of California - Current and in good standing.

License Preferred

Certifications Required

National Certification in specialty area. Current BLS certification prior to clinical rotation. Department specific certification requirements are as follows: Cardiac Telemetry: ACLS required upon hire. Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines. Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI): ACLS required upon hire. Completes annual stroke education per Hoag Hospital guidelines.

Certifications Preferred

Cardiac Telemetry: PCCN. Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI): PCCN.
