Overview JOB DESCRIPTION – PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Provide a summary of the position and the key reason the job exists. Include the typical supervision or guidance required (general direction, close supervision, etc.).
Responsibilities The Specialists are responsible for the investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of claims. This includes assessing coverage, contacting customers, investigating the facts surrounding the loss, arranging inspection, engaging experts and third parties; collecting information and evaluating the complexity of loss or claims when needed; negotiating loss settlements either directly with customers or through their assigned counsel and finalizing settlements. Specialists are required to understand and comply with Insurance Regulations, Statutes, and case law accordingly. The Specialists work closely with other departments, vendors and defense counsel as needed throughout the claim process. Depending on the level of complexity, claim values can range from a nominal amount to millions of dollars.
Essential Functions
Auto - Handles moderate to serious property/physical damage and injury claims, including first and third party losses.
Processes claims according to applicable state mandates.
Investigates coverage issues and/or liability claims, as needed.
Confirms coverage and the facts of loss through investigation, determining liability and extent of loss (or injury, damage, etc.), if applicable.
Determines the appropriate method of inspection or review of facts.
Makes liability determinations based on investigation and applicable liability law. Includes sending out required forms and obtaining releases as needed; negotiates settlements with customers or their legal representatives.
Ensures compliance with state regulations and requirements.
Focuses on proper investigation, evaluation, negotiation and settlement of all claims with moderate to serious complexity.
Qualifications
4 years’ claims experience.
Maintain Continuing Education (CE) requirements for state licensing when appropriate.
Health – Completion of ICA-1.
Completion of appropriate insurance designation and/or training on medical terminology when appropriate.
Completion of basic Kaplan Courses and/or PLRB courses as appropriate.
Special Position Requirements
The position is essentially a normal office environment with discretionary movement; travel, physical requirements, or related special conditions may apply as described.
Preferences
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience.
