Duties and Responsibilities Under general supervision, conduct courses of instruction in electronics, computer and networking technology. Courses pertain specifically to computer, microprocessor, networking, programming, electronics (ac/dc/semiconductor/digital/optics), electronics fabrication and assembly.

Work cooperatively with the dean, division chair, program coordinator, and colleagues to develop an understanding of student needs in the discipline or area of primary responsibility including preparation of course syllabi, completion of appropriate program level and course level assessment.

Develop and review curricula within industry-validated student learning outcomes, assess student learning outcomes, and incorporate the latest trends in industry; develop teaching strategies, instructional materials and methods which use competency-based instruction; integrate critical thinking skills into instructional methods; and emphasize writing as an important skill.

Maintain subject matter currency and incorporate technological advances in both operations and instruction; conduct peer evaluations and complete regular self-assessment of teaching effectiveness as required.

Assist with recruitment, student internships/job placements; and develop and maintain robust industry partnerships.

Participate in campus committees, accreditation activities, and program reviews maintaining alignment of campus, program, and course learning outcomes.

Identify student needs including needs of underprepared students, and implement constructive teaching strategies, counsel students and assist in campus related student activities.

Maintain office hours as determined by teaching schedule.

Day, evening, Early College, and/or distance education classes may be assigned as part of regular workload. May be assigned operational or off-site instructional duties as part of regular workload.

Minimum Qualifications (a) Master’s degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering OR

(b) Bachelor’s degree in Electronics or Electrical Engineering and 3 years of related work experience OR

(c) Associate degree and 5 years of related work experience OR

(d) 15 college credits and 7 years of related work experience.

All degrees must be earned from an accredited institution and met by the effective date of appointment. If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.

Desirable Qualifications

Successful teaching experience in a community college computer technologies and/or electronics program or equivalent as substantiated by student, peer, and administrative assessments.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a multi-ethnic, multicultural population.

Successful teaching experience with strong background and hands on experience in DC, AC, semiconductors circuits, digital electronics, and electronics fabrication, and assembly skills for training students for jobs as electronics technicians.

Experience in soldering and fabricating PC boards to industry standards.

Experience using basic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, logic analyzers, signal generators, digital multi-meters, cable testers/TDR to test and troubleshoot electronic systems.

Experience in optics.

Experience in RF Communications.

Cisco Networking Academy Instructor certified to teach the academy’s CCNA, and IT Essentials (A+) curriculum or equivalent.

Additional industry certifications such as: MCSE Certification, MCSA certification, Linux (LPI or Linux+), Security+, A+.

Programming skills, such as in C, C#, C++, Java, Visual Basic, Python, or Assembly languages.

Familiarity with software applications: MS Office Suite (latest versions) and Open Office. Other useful applications include Labview, Matlab, Visio, database (MySQL or SQL), mechanical design software (Solid Works), circuit design software, web teaching/conferencing software (i.e. WebEx, Zoom, etc.) and various open-source equivalents.

Work experience in supervising and overseeing Electronics, IT, or Cyber Security systems.

Experience with online instruction.
