HDR is recognized by Engineering‑News Record as a Top 10 environmental firm. We are looking for an Environmental Project Manager to support our Environmental Sciences and Planning Cross‑Sector in the Southeast. The position is open to multiple office locations.
Job Overview The Environmental Project Manager reports within the Power Environmental Practice and works closely with local leadership and the Resources Business Group (RBG), focusing on power, renewable energy, waste, and industrial projects. The role involves leading environmental planning, permitting, siting, and compliance projects and working with federal and state regulations, including NEPA.
Day‑to‑day Responsibilities
Plan and direct medium‑ to large‑size environmental planning and permitting projects for transportation, water/wastewater, facilities, power, and other programs.
Prepare, plan, and analyze/review technical studies, permit applications, NEPA documents, and related reports.
Direct and coordinate work of single or multidiscipline teams throughout the project lifecycle.
Establish and maintain client relations and participate in contractual, design, and production meetings.
Coordinate workload to ensure completion of documents on schedule.
Track financial aspects of projects and manage project budgets in coordination with Business/Accounting Manager or Project Controller.
Mentor mid‑level and junior staff in field survey techniques, permitting (primarily CWA), and technical writing.
Participate in agency reviews for compliance and support regional or national projects in specific areas of technical expertise.
Perform other duties as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
NEPA experience with power and/or renewable energy clients and projects, especially TVA projects.
Experience supporting technical reports for private sector renewable energy interconnections to the TVA system and TVA‑led renewable energy facilities.
Compliance knowledge for transmission, thermal generation, and other TVA power projects.
Advanced degree (M.S. or higher) in botany or related field.
Minimum 5 years of experience focusing on field botany and plant identification.
Knowledge of flora common to the Tennessee Valley and T&E species.
Contributed specimens to a herbarium or rare plant record within the past 5 years.
Client and agency relationship development experience.
Experience with public service commissions and local permitting presentations or testimony.
Local candidates are preferred.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field.
7 years of related experience.
Minimum 2 years of project management experience.
Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills (written and verbal).
