Primary Duties and Responsibilities
The Clinical Nurse II – MedSurg role provides direct patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act to assigned patients on Medical/Surgical units. The nurse collaborates with other disciplines of the health care team to ensure the delivery of safe, timely and appropriate quality patient care. This includes providing physical assessments, nursing interventions, pain management, medication administrations, specimen collection, meeting nutritional needs, and teaching and discharge needs of the patients assigned. Utilizes the nursing process based on evidence-based best practices to meet patient care needs. Evaluates and adjusts the nursing care process as necessary with consultation as needed, and confers with the appropriate resource personnel when making ethical/legal/medical dilemma decisions. Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
Additionally, the Clinical Nurse II meets the requirements outlined in the Clinical Ladder program respective to his/her department. The Clinical Nurse II demonstrates a commitment to hospital involvement and professional growth by participating in committees, attending related meetings, and presenting education projects and/or supplemental activities.
For Outpatient Treatment Infusion Centers (Oncology and Non-Oncology) Administers Chemotherapy/Biotherapy/Immunotherapy.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Clinical Nurse II’s at Magnet designated facilities only require a BSN or that a BSN program is started within one year of hire date and BSN degree is attained within two years of starting the BSN program. BSN preferred. One year experience in an acute care hospital required. Additional requirements for specific departments are as follows: Advanced Brain and Spine Unit: Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification. Neurology and Neurosurgery telemetry experience preferred, including but not limited to: stroke, seizure, brain tumor/surgery, Parkinson’s, spinal surgery. Acute Rehab: Experience in Functional Improvement Measure (FIM) preferred. Previous experience in rehab nursing preferred. Cardiac Telemetry: Successful completion of Sub-Intensive, Intermediate, Progressive or Critical Care course/experience required. Successful completion of ECG test required. Fulfills mandatory stroke education requirements per certification agency. Gamma Knife: Previous telemetry experience preferred including but not limited to PACU, ED, ICU/CCU, GI Lab units. Successful completion of ECG test required. GI Lab: Moderate Sedation experience required. Previous GI nursing experience preferred. Gyn/Urol: Medical/Surgical, Gyn/Urology experience preferred. Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI): Experience in cardiac telemetry required. Hoag Orthopedic Institute (HOI): BSN preferred. Two years’ experience in orthopedic nursing required. Successful completion of ECG test required. Ortho Surgery Center: Successful completion of ECG test required. Two years clinical/management experience preferred. Outpatient Treatment Centers: For Oncology Infusion, 3 years Oncology Infusion experience required. For Non-Oncology Infusion, no experience required. Radiation Oncology: Oncology experience required. Radiation oncology experience preferred. HHNB Interventional Radiology, CT Scan, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, Main X-Ray: Interventional Radiology experience preferred. HHI Main X-Ray: Interventional Radiology and/or vascular access experience preferred. PICC Services: Ultrasound guided vascular access experience is preferred. Surgical – 6 West: Experience in SUB-ICU required. Experience on Surgical-6 West unit preferred. Telemetry: Previous Telemetry experience preferred. Irvine Tele - Requires and maintains NIHSS cert as designated by Manager.
