The Admission Counselor reports to the Associate Director for First Year Admission. Supervision Exercised:

General Statement of Duties: The Admission Counselor has primary responsibility for recruitment of prospective students in an assigned territory and/or program from inquiry to enrollment. The counselor assists in the planning, organization andadministration of the day division admission program as well. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include but not limited to: Essential: Provide accurate information pertaining to the enrollment process. This includes University programs and services, enrollment procedures, admissions criteria, and specific curriculum requirements for prospective students, school counselors and other related individuals or groups. Act as a primary point person in determining and conducting recruitment and yield efforts for an assigned recruitment territory. Plan and execute travel in support of the recruitment and yield efforts. Visit high schools, community-based organizations, and attend college recruitment fairs, college evening programs and other recruitment activities to recruit a student population consistent with institutional recruitment goals. Assist in the development of a recruitment plan to enroll first year student populations. Populations include academically talented students, underrepresented students, first-generation college students, and other populations designated by the Director of Admission. Assist with follow-up activities including telephone calls, specialized mailings, e-mail, text messages and meetings with prospective, accepted, and enrolled students. Assist in identifying systems to recruit dynamic students for Westfield State. Enter prospect data upon return from recruitment events. Participate in on-campus admission events. Review and evaluate admission application files as assigned and determine admissibility per college admission standards. Coordinate file review for a special application population as assigned by the Director of Admission. Develop and maintain professional relationships with secondary school counselors. Coordinate receipt of official final high school transcript including verification of successful completion of required course work. Conduct on-campus information sessions for visiting students and their families. Assist with transfer recruitment. Assist with tours as needed. Track and update all changes in major received after May 1st and prior to the start of the new students first term. Assist with final admission statistics if needed. Responsible for answering phone calls as needed. Perform other duties as assigned. Participate in educational and professional development activities.

Requirements:

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree. Valid driver's license and reliable means of transportation. Exceptional interpersonal skills; work effectively and well with potential applicants, parents, high school counselors, faculty, staff, and the public. Strong written and verbal communication as well as public presentation skills. Proficiency in computer applications. Knowledge of Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) programs. Ability to think critically. Excellent reading and comprehension skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team. Must have strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and prioritize. Must be available to work evenings and weekends, and travel throughout the year. Highly motivated, enthusiastic, energetic, creative, and dependable. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with Slate & Ellucian Banner preferred Experience working with a bilingual population Admission experience and knowledge of Westfield State University. Skill in overseeing social media sites.

Salaries for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining agreements as well as state policies.
