Responsibilities
The Certified Phlebotomy Technician I (CPT I) must meet the regulatory requirements of CA Codes (Business and Professions Code: 1246) and California Code of Regulations 1034 or equivalent state certification requirements to work in the clinical laboratory.
The CPT I primarily performs skin puncture or venipuncture on patients of all ages to obtain blood specimens for analysis and works under the supervision of the Laboratory Director/Manager/Supervisor.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing computer data entry, filing, telephone communication, and other clerical duties.
- Possessing adequate knowledge of laboratory test terminology.
- Demonstrating good communication skills and telephone etiquette when greeting patients and visitors.
- Demonstrating proper phlebotomy technique using equipment for specimen collection from newborns to geriatric patients.
- Processing specimens for microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank.
- Processing specimens for referral to reference laboratories.
- Stocking routine supplies.
- Maintaining cleanliness of storage areas, trays, centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and work areas.
- Processing or loading specimens onto automated laboratory instrumentation per established policies and procedures.
- Assisting with pick‑up of samples at hospital/OR, assisting lab specialties in sorting samples, performing inventory, ordering supplies, faxing, answering phone, product deliveries, and other general duties as assigned.
- Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
Qualifications
Education, Experience, Training
1. High School Diploma or equivalent required.
2. Current and valid state certification as a CPT I required.
3. BLS certification within 45 days of hire and maintained current required.
4. Minimum of one (1) year of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
Pay Transparency
Chino Valley Medical Center offers competitive compensation. The starting compensation estimate for this role is $21.99 per hour. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, based on factors such as skill set, experience, education, credentials, and licensure.
