Looking for an accounting and leadership role with an organization that makes a difference? Sunshine Behavioral Health, a leader in substance abuse recovery, is seeking an Accounting Manager to join our team. The Accounting Manager will oversee the day‑to‑day accounting operations of Sunshine Behavioral Health, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in all financial reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on leader with strong operational accounting expertise with demonstrated experience in treasury, capable of technical accounting research, and a commitment to continuous improvement and team development. This individual will have an active CPA with a mix of public and corporate accounting experience. Will report to the Controller and manage a Senior Accountant.
Sunshine's mission is to provide the highest quality substance abuse treatment services and deliver them with passion, integrity, and company spirit. Through our programs, individuals receive the tools to overcome their alcohol/drug dependencies and learn to manage co‑occurring disorders.
Compensation: $135,000 - $140,000 / year dependent on experience. 10% annual bonus opportunity.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the month‑end close process, including review and approval of journal entries and account reconciliations prepared by the Senior Accountant and other team members.
- Financial reporting including month‑end reporting packages for executive team and quarterly reports for lenders.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of the general ledger across all entities, maintaining compliance with U.S. GAAP and internal accounting policies.
- Supervise and review all treasury operations, accounts payable, and payroll recording activities, ensuring accurate cash‑flow reporting, disbursements, and payroll‑related accruals.
- Manage fringe benefit accounting, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employer‑paid benefits, ensuring appropriate accruals and reporting.
- Oversee company travel and expense systems and corporate credit card management, ensuring compliance with company policy and timely processing of reimbursements.
- Review and analyze monthly financial results (revenue, expenses, and key performance indicators), providing insights and variance explanations to department leaders and the Controller.
- Lead preparation of consolidated financial statements and monthly reporting packages for executive leadership.
- Manage, develop, and mentor accounting team members, fostering accountability, professional growth, and cross‑functional collaboration.
- Coordinate annual financial statement audit activities; review supporting schedules and ensure timely responses to auditor requests.
- Drive process improvement and systems integration initiatives, optimizing automation, reporting capabilities, and internal controls.
- Assist the Controller in policy development, implementation of new accounting standards, and preparation of management reports and ad‑hoc analyses.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (required).
- 6–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial capacity.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (required).
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting standards.
- Proven experience in treasury operations, accounts payable, payroll accounting, fringe benefit accounting, and expense management systems required.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems; experience with Sage Intacct preferred. Knowledge of Workday Adaptive preferred.
- Experience with data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau (preferred) or Power BI.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to build strong partnerships across departments.
- Proactive, hands‑on leader with sound judgment and a continuous improvement mindset.
