Position Overview We are seeking to fill the role of Counsel, Product & AI to provide tactical legal support for product development and AI initiatives. This role focuses on executing day-to-day legal reviews and implementing compliance frameworks for product teams and engineering groups.
This position requires a technically proficient legal professional who can conduct detailed product legal reviews throughout the development lifecycle. The ideal candidate will work directly with development teams to ensure compliance while enabling innovation.
Key Responsibilities Product Legal Review
Conduct end-to-end product legal reviews from initial concept through development, testing, and commercial launch for all products and AI-powered solutions
Assess technology architecture and system designs to identify legal, regulatory, and IP risks and recommend solutions to mitigate such risks
Evaluate third-party component integration assessing licensing, security, and compliance implications
Review user interfaces and marketing materials to ensure accuracy of product claims, prevent misleading statements, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations
Draft and update procedure documents for product legal review processes, creating standardized frameworks for different product types and AI applications
AI & LLM Support
Conduct specialized legal reviews for AI-powered projects including large language models (LLMs), and Agentic AI systems
Assess AI development lifecycle risks including data procurement, model training, validation, deployment, and ongoing monitoring phases
Review LLM licensing terms and usage restrictions, ensuring compliance with model provider terms and conditions
Analyze privacy related legal risks in AI training datasets, model outputs, and inference processes
Licensing & IP Operations
Conduct comprehensive open-source license reviews for all software components and dependencies
Create license risk mitigation strategies including code isolation, alternative component selection, and commercial licensing negotiations
Act as a subject matter expert and support contract negotiations for technology licensing and SaaS agreements.
Data & Privacy Compliance
Assess data procurement strategies for AI training, including web scraping, and synthetic data generation
Assess personal data risks in training datasets and model fine-tuning
Awareness of US privacy laws including CCA and state privacy regulations
Qualifications we seek in you!
Minimum Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) from accredited US law school
Active US bar admission
Relevant years of legal experience with technology and product counsel focus
Preferred Qualifications/ Skills
Deep understanding of Large Language Models (LLMs) including LLM licensing, software architecture, training processes, and deployment considerations
Knowledge of AI development lifecycle from data collection through model deployment and monitoring
Expertise in open-source licensing with practical experience reviewing and mitigating copyleft license risks
Knowledge of personal data risks in AI contexts including training data, model outputs, and inference processes
Understanding of software development lifecycle and architecture patterns
Legal Expertise
Extensive experience in intellectual property matters with focus on software, AI, and technology with the ability to practically explain legal risks and ways to mitigate those risks to business owners and technology developers
Proven expertise in SaaS contracting including data processing terms, AI-specific provisions, and liability frameworks
Strong knowledge of US privacy laws and emerging AI regulations
Experience with regulatory compliance and FTC guidance on AI

The approximate annual base compensation range for this position is [$80,000 to $100,000]. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package plus benefits, will be determined by a number of factors which include but are not limited to the applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities; geographic location; and internal equity.
