We are seeking an experienced
Principal Geotechnical Engineer
to lead complex projects, manage technical teams, and contribute to the continued growth of our geotechnical division. This is a
critical, high-priority hire
with an immediate start available for the right candidate. Position Overview
The
Principal Geotechnical Engineer
will serve as the technical lead and Engineer of Record on a range of large-scale geotechnical projects across the public and private sectors. This role is responsible for overseeing geotechnical investigations, managing multi-disciplinary project teams, ensuring technical compliance, and serving as a senior client-facing representative of ATL. This is a senior-level leadership role and is suited only for candidates with
advanced geotechnical expertise
and proven project execution capabilities. Qualifications
Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Texas
– Required. Minimum 8 years
of geotechnical engineering experience, with increasing responsibility. Extensive experience in geotechnical investigations, soil/rock analysis, foundation design, slope stability, retaining structures, and settlement evaluation. Experience working with TXDOT, municipalities, or large private sector clients in the Houston region. Demonstrated ability to manage and deliver complex geotechnical projects on time and within budget. Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and client interaction. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree (M.S.) in Geotechnical Engineering
from an ABET-accredited institution. Familiarity with regional soil conditions and construction practices. Proficiency in geotechnical software such as gINT, LPILE, SLIDE, Settle3, and PLAXIS. Experience leading engineering teams and mentoring junior engineers. Responsibilities
Serve as the technical authority and Engineer of Record on major geotechnical projects. Oversee the planning, execution, and analysis of geotechnical investigations. Prepare and review geotechnical reports, recommendations, and design calculations. Lead client meetings, technical presentations, and agency coordination. Provide QA/QC oversight across all phases of geotechnical work. Support proposal development, budgeting, and project scoping efforts. Manage and mentor technical staff to ensure high performance and professional development.
