Summary The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a full-time Advanced Practice Professional (NP or PA) to join our team at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Minimum Qualifications For Nurse Practitioner Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

Graduate of a CCNE-accredited nursing program with Master’s Degree in Nursing.

National Certification by one of the recognized APRN Certification Centers.

Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia.

American Heart Association BLS, ACLS and ATLS certification required.

Experience:

Acute care or emergency medicine experience preferred.

Eligible new graduates will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

ACNP or FNP considered.

American Heart Association PALS certification is encouraged.

Minimum Qualifications For Physician Assistant Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree as a Medical/Surgical Physician Assistant (as applicable).

Graduate of an ARC-PA approved PA training program.

Position Summary The APP has coordination and clinical skills required for the comprehensive management of emergency medicine patients, including biological, social and psychological assessments. The APP coordinates involvement of medical/surgical specialty teams to develop a comprehensive plan, directs care with the clinical team, performs diagnostic/therapeutic procedures, and coordinates discharge planning and follow-up as applicable. The APP participates in education of residents and medical/nursing students and provides care consistent with state law and licensing/certification requirements.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

Manages comprehensive and individualized care for emergency medicine patients and families; coordinates hospitalization when necessary.

Completes pre-procedure evaluations and integrated assessments.

Orders tests or consults as appropriate following clinical guidelines and scope of practice.

Performs and communicates results of diagnostic tests.

Coordinates with DEM clinic and hospital staff regarding abnormal findings.

Documents assessments and care in the medical record; facilitates discharge planning and follow-up.

Develops comprehensive care plans, including teaching, discharge planning and referrals as needed.

Demonstrates age-specific care across the continuum of education and certification.

Identifies unstable or complex cases and facilitates appropriate intervention in the DEM setting.

Initiates emergency measures when needed and coordinates follow-up procedures/tests.

Utilizes teaching and learning strategies for staff, patients, families and the community.

Promotes an environment conducive to learning and patient-centered care.

Updates knowledge base, completes clinical competencies, and serves as a resource for staff.

Collaborates with leaders and staff to achieve patient-outcome improvements and participates in program development, education, and interdisciplinary initiatives.

Participates in committees and projects; documents hours and submits billing reports as appropriate.

Contributes to outcome measures, participates in research studies when applicable.

Other duties as assigned.

Education, Certification, and/or Licensure

Masters-level education as Medical/Surgical PA preferred.

American Heart Association PALS certification is encouraged.

Physical Requirements Heavy work with lifting, standing, walking, and patient handling as described; reasonable accommodations may be made.

Working Environment

Close collaboration with staff; protracted or irregular hours; exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases.

Ability to work near patients and in the presence of multiple environments and hazards.

Skills and Abilities

Proficiency with computers and strong communication skills.
