Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines throughout the organization to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Obtains and maintains competencies in med/surg, med/tel, ICU, ED, and postpartum/newborn care. Accepts assignments to any area in which competencies are documented and is able to assist with nursing function in any department or area of need. Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: “The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alterations.” Utilizes the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others. Collects patient health data and determines the priority of data collection based on the patient’s condition or needs; collects pertinent data using appropriate assessment techniques; involves the patient, significant others, and health care providers in data collection when appropriate; ensures the data collection process is systematic and ongoing; documents relevant data in the medical record according to hospital standards. Analyzes assessment data to determine diagnoses/patient problems; derives and validates diagnoses with the patient and health care providers; documents diagnoses to facilitate the determination of expected outcomes and the plan. Identifies expected outcomes individualized to the patient; derives measurable outcomes and documents them; formulates outcomes with the patient and health care providers; ensures outcomes are realistic and attainable given resources and timeframes. Develops and individualizes a plan of care that prescribes interventions to attain expected outcomes; documents and ensures continuity of care in the plan. Implements the interventions identified in the plan of care; establishes interventions that are safe and appropriate; documents interventions. Evaluates the patient’s progress toward attainment of outcomes; ensures evaluation is systematic and ongoing; documents responses and revises diagnoses, outcomes, and the plan of care as needed; involves patient and care providers in the evaluation process when appropriate. Participates in quality-of-care activities to monitor and improve nursing care and patient outcomes; uses quality data to initiate changes in practice. Qualifications
Education : Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred License/Certification : Current RN license in the state of practice; Basic Life Support (BLS) – required within time frame required by facility policy; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and 12-Lead ECG – may be required at some facilities Experience : Previous Acute Care Experience Preferred; Experience in multiple clinical specialties desirable Job Details
