Overview

Surgical Technologist, Operating Room 1.0 FTE D/E at Regions Hospital. Join our Operating Room team as a Surgical Technologist in a Level I Trauma Center. The Surgical Technologist functions as an active member of the surgical team in the role of the scrub person, assisting the Circulator with preparation of the O.R. suite by reviewing the preference card for supplies, gathering equipment and instrumentation, practicing department procedures for hand scrub, gowning and gloving, accurately preparing drugs under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Circulator, setting up sterile instruments, suture and all sterile supplies, and maintaining the sterile field during procedures. The Surgical Technologist anticipates and communicates the surgeon’s needs and has instruments and supplies readily available for use.

Responsibilities

Assist the Circulator with preparation of the O.R. suite by reviewing the preference card for appropriate supplies

Gather equipment and instrumentation required for procedures

Practice department procedures for hand scrubs, gowning, and gloving

Accurately prepare drugs under the supervision of the Registered Nurse Circulator

Set up sterile instruments, sutures, and all sterile supplies

Maintain the sterile field of instruments and supplies during procedures

Anticipate and communicate the surgeon’s needs; keep instruments and supplies readily available

Qualifications

Completion of a surgical technologist training program

Completion of national certification exam offered by the NBSTSA or NCCT within 12 months of hire; certification must be maintained during employment

CPR certification required at time of employment and every two years thereafter

Work Schedule & Employment Type This is a 1.0 FTE (80 hours per pay period) position. Shifts will be a mix of days (6:45a-3:00p) and evenings (3:00p-11p). Occasional overnight coverage (11p-7a), call coverage, and weekend responsibilities every 8th weekend, holidays, and vacation per seniority.
