Job Description Sets the standard for the organization’s safety culture with a strong emphasis on industrial refrigeration safety. Acts as professional advisor and resource to the construction and service management teams including Project Managers, Site Superintendents, Foremen, and Service Managers. Serves as the leader in setting safe operating standards, developing, and delivering training designed to address governmental and customer requirements, as well as behaviors that cause accidents involving ammonia, CO2, and refrigeration systems. Collaborates closely with the President, serves on the senior management team, and performs in an advisory role across both construction and service operations. Travel is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Assess worksite hazards and develop appropriate controls/standards by developing site‑specific safety plans as required by the General Contractor/customers. Particular focus will be placed on refrigeration system installations, ammonia/CO2 processes, and cold storage facilities.

Conduct shop and jobsite audits in conjunction with competent personnel onsite.

Act as a liaison between controlling contractor and field personnel to coordinate, enforce site safety initiatives, and act as a subject matter resource in a manner that communicates a culture of safety and builds trust.

Be the go‑to resource to solve problems raised by the project team on issues occurring in the field or concerns raised as potential roadblocks or hazards that affect the project team.

Proactively manage trade partners and subcontractors; provide coaching and corrective feedback relative to safe work practices and conditions.

Onboard field personnel and educate the workforce on recognizable hazards and Safe Work Authorization Plans or Job Hazard Assessments.

Actively represent the company during insurance, OSHA, EPA, and PSM/RMP inspections for industrial refrigeration operations.

Investigate refrigeration‑related accidents, ammonia releases, and near‑miss incidents to determine root causes and lessons learned.

Design and deliver training standards/materials that meet governmental and customer compliance standards, additionally addressing behaviors causing accidents.

Manage and maintain records: OSHA compliance, IIAR and PSM/RMP documentation, injury management, training/learning management system, client reports, ISN & AVETTA records.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Advisory role to Project Managers, Superintendents, and Foremen; direct oversight of safety staff and consultants where applicable.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety.

10–15 years of field experience working as a professional safety manager/director in building construction environments.

Firm understanding of construction and industrial refrigeration safety standards and regulations (IIAR, OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, NEC, EPA, PSM/RMP).

Technical capabilities in Fall Protection, Industrial Refrigeration Ammonia and CO2 Process Safety Management, Rigging, and Arc Flash exposures working live.

Earned certifications that demonstrate mature understanding of the field as well as ability to lead others and develop a culture of safety. Examples: BCSP qualified credentials including OHST, ASP, CSP, or CHST; OSHA 10 & 30 trainer’s certification; First Aid and CPR trainer’s certification.

EQUIPMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work in office and construction site environments; must be able to travel frequently, conduct site inspections, and respond to emergencies.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, safety management software, refrigeration compliance tracking tools, and training delivery platforms.
