Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Sales Engineering Leader to build, mentor, and drive our Sales Engineering function. This is a critical role that partners with our Sales Leadership team to translate complex technical capabilities into clear, compelling customer value. As a leader at Owl Cyber Defense, you will be instrumental in defining our sales success, focusing on a culture of clarity, accountability, and support. You will ensure technical excellence is directly aligned with our revenue goals and our core values of One Team, Innovation, and Customer.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities Team Leadership & Development
Strategic Leadership & Planning – This leader will be a strategic partner to the CRO and regional sales leadership, driving growth and ensuring resources are maximized.
Define the Technical Strategy – Collaborate with senior leadership to define and execute the Sales Engineering strategy, ensuring technical efforts are aligned with overall business and revenue objectives.
Drive Innovation – Work closely with Product and Engineering to establish a rigorous feedback loop from the field to inform the product roadmap, ensuring our solutions remain innovative and market‑leading.
Resource Alignment – Operationalize 'Metrics that Matter' to effectively manage the business and ensure the most effective utilization of SE resources and skill sets.
Player‑Coach Mentality – Lead, coach, and develop a high‑performing Sales Engineering team, fostering both technical excellence and customer empathy. You will directly support high‑impact, complex enterprise sales pursuits while scaling the team.
Culture & Talent – Champion a culture of One Team collaboration with Sales, Product, Marketing, and Services. You are responsible for recruitment, performance management, and career development pathways to provide continuous support and clarity for your team.
Operational Excellence – Build scalable processes, playbooks, and best practices that enable the team to consistently deliver high‑quality customer engagements and ensure a seamless handoff to post‑sales teams.
Customer Engagement & Solution Design
Executive Engagement – Engage at multiple levels within a customer account (Enterprise Architects, VPs, and CXOs), providing technical leadership during presentations, demonstrations, and proof‑of‑concept engagements.
Solution Translation – Translate customer requirements into compelling, repeatable solution designs and use cases that clearly highlight business value and drive accountability for technical success.
Thought Leadership – Drive the creation of high‑impact technical collateral and represent Owl Cyber Defense at industry events to position us as a trusted advisor and thought leader.
Requirements/Qualifications Education
B.S. in Computer Science, Cyber Security, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree).
Experience
15+ years of experience with Cybersecurity Networking technologies (preferably with 'Cross Domain Solutions'), and at least half of that time in a Sales Engineering, leadership capacity.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong written and verbal communication skills
A high level of professionalism
Strong public speaking ability
Highly motivated and able to take ownership of projects
Ability to work on a team
Previous experience in Cyber Security
Working knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 networking
Experience with scripting languages
Linux command line experience
Preferred skills:
Experience with 'Cross Domain Solutions'
Experience building or managing a team directly or indirectly
Cisco Unified Communication expertise
Experience in routing, switching, and firewalls
Prior government, military, or intelligence experience
Industry Certifications
Sales Experience
Additional Competencies/Requirements
Must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance up to TS/SCI.
Must be available for at least 25% travel to customer sites, industry conferences, and company functions (20% domestic and 5% international expected).
