Opportunity GIS Consultant – Enterprise Asset Management (EAM)
We seek an experienced, client‑focused GIS consultant to support utility clients in optimizing spatial data integration, asset tracking, and operational workflows across water, wastewater, electric, and gas networks. The role delivers strategic guidance, hands‑on implementation, and support for GIS‑EAM integration projects.
Key Responsibilities
GIS Consulting
Assess client GIS environments and recommend improvements for data accuracy, accessibility, and integration.
Configure and manage GIS datasets for utility infrastructure including water mains, valves, hydrants, electric poles, transformers, meters, and gas pipelines.
Develop custom maps, spatial analysis tools, and dashboards to support client operations and planning.
Provide training and documentation for GIS workflows and tools.
EAM Integration
Advise clients on best practices for integrating GIS with EAM platforms (Trimble Unity, Cityworks, IBM Maximo, IFS).
Support data migration, cleansing, and validation during system implementations or upgrades.
Assist in configuring spatially enabled assets and work management.
Collaborate with client IT and operations teams to ensure seamless data flow and system interoperability.
Project Delivery
Lead or support GIS‑EAM integration projects from planning through execution.
Develop project documentation, timelines, and deliverables aligned with client goals.
Conduct stakeholder workshops and status reviews.
Ensure quality assurance and client satisfaction throughout the engagement.
Facilitate cross‑functional collaboration among engineering, field operations, IT, and compliance teams.
Monitor project progress, manage risks, and ensure alignment with utility regulations (EPA, NERC, FERC).
Conduct post‑implementation reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
Mentor junior staff and contribute to knowledge sharing across the practice.
Support business development by contributing to proposals and client strategy meetings.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree.
Minimum 10 years of GIS experience in a utility environment (graduate work counts if directly applicable).
3+ years working with EAM systems (Trimble Unity, Cityworks, IBM Maximo, IFS).
Strong understanding of utility asset types and spatial data standards.
Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and training skills.
Proven ability to deliver client‑facing consulting projects and training.
Experience with GPS/mobile data collection tools and workflows.
Knowledge of asset condition modeling, risk analysis, and capital planning.
Experience with SCADA, AMI, or other operational systems.
Strong presentation skills with executive‑level stakeholder engagement experience.
Industry certifications such as PMP, ESRI Geodatabase, or ArcGIS are a plus.
Technical exposure: ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcMap, ArcGIS Enterprise, Field Maps, Survey123, Collector, Fulcrum, ModelBuilder, Python (ArcPy), SQL, Power BI, Tableau, FME, REST APIs, WMS.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in GIS or related field.
10+ years in a business or consulting environment with significant engagement management experience.
Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background checks, drug screening, etc.).
Work Environment & Schedule
Hybrid or flexible work options after 90 days; requires hybrid schedule at a Black & Veatch office.
Travel up to 25% as needed.
