Lead Electrical Engineer - Substation Design QA/QC Black & Veatch Corporation – an employee‑owned, globally‑present engineering, procurement, construction, and consulting firm dedicated to creating sustainable infrastructure solutions.

The Opportunity As a quality control/quality assurance engineer in the Substation Quality Management Group (QMG), you will:

Perform QA/QC of substation design packages, focusing on physical design, protective relaying/control and continuous improvement. Collaborate with the substation design team to ensure design intent meets project and regulatory requirements. Take ownership of the associated quality tools and processes, providing guidance and support to teammates.

Ideal Candidate The role is based in one of the U.S. Western Region Power Offices – Denver, Colorado; Irvine, California; Phoenix, Arizona or Tualatin, Oregon – and the successful candidate must be located or willing to relocate to one of these sites.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited program in the applicable country. At least 5 years of related work experience. Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background check, drug screen, driver’s record).

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Substation Design – Physical and/or P&C. QA/QC of Substation Design projects. Professional Engineering (PE) License. Strong attention to detail, analytical and problem‑solving skills. Excellent written and verbal communication, and ability to mentor and lead teammates. Intermediate knowledge of engineering design principles, applicable design guides and Black & Veatch policies.

Key Responsibilities

Apply independent knowledge of design guides, standards and Black & Veatch policies to assigned tasks. Ensure compliance with the Quality Program during internal QA/QC reviews. Provide guidance to project team members and support continuous improvement and change‑management efforts. Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders on moderately complex projects. Mentor less experienced engineers and direct reports.

Certifications Professional registration or licensure in the designated home office country, or the active pursuit of such registration.

Work Environment Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after 90 days of employment based on managerial discretion and performance.
