We are currently seeking a full‑time Embryologist to join our experienced and collaborative team in Sacramento, CA.
General Summary of Duties The Embryologist is responsible for performing all laboratory procedures in accordance with the NCFMC IVF Laboratory Procedure Manual. This role assists with introducing new laboratory services and techniques as needed, while promoting and maintaining the laboratory’s philosophy and performance standards.
Essential Functions
Maintain a patient service–oriented environment within the laboratory.
Safely handle specimens following all safety guidelines for biohazardous, infectious, and toxic substances.
Participate in embryology and andrology proficiency testing as required by CAP.
Perform the following IVF procedures: oocyte retrievals, sperm preparation for insemination and ICSI, sperm harvesting from MESA/TESE cases, sperm survival assays, in vitro fertilization, fertilization checks, embryo evaluation, and blastocyst culture/grading, egg and embryo cryopreservation and thawing, and embryo transfers.
Perform micromanipulation techniques, including assisted hatching and ICSI (required).
Perform daily and weekly quality control (QC) procedures and maintain equipment.
Document quality assurance (QA) activities and incident reports.
Demonstrate flexibility in learning new procedures and adapting to technological advancements in the IVF field.
Maintain laboratory records and assist with SART and EHR data entry.
Order and maintain laboratory supplies on an ongoing basis.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience Bachelor’s Degree and experience in IVF is required.
Knowledge Requirements
Proper use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Laboratory safety policies and regulations.
Sterile technique.
Mechanisms of oocyte maturation, sperm capacitation, and in vitro culture requirements for oocytes and embryos.
Laboratory procedures as defined in the NCFMC IVF SOP Manual.
Skills
Proficiency in equipment use, preventative maintenance, and repair.
Strong microscopy and hand–eye coordination skills.
Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Strong organizational and technical aptitude.
Abilities
Strict attention to detail in all IVF laboratory tasks.
Ability to read, understand, and follow written protocols.
Ability to organize effectively and work quickly with high accuracy.
Flexibility to work weekends and holidays as part of a rotating schedule and respond to staffing needs as directed by the IVF Lab Director.
Environmental/Working Conditions This role works in a combination of laboratory, medical office, and exam/procedure room settings. The environment is well‑lit and ventilated with adequate space. Handling and processing of bodily fluids and tissue is required, with appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
