Job Title Senior Bridge Engineer (Hybrid, Onsite)

Location Chicago, IL

Job Type Hybrid – on site 2 days a week, remote 2 days, flexible Friday.

What You Will Be Doing

Lead and coordinate engineering design efforts, guiding junior and mid‑level engineers.

Collaborate with CADD teams to develop plans, specifications, and estimates for steel and concrete bridges, walls, culverts, and sign structures.

Apply engineering principles to develop solutions, determine staffing needs, and execute projects while maintaining quality control.

Leverage familiarity with Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, and Chicago DOT standards to ensure design solutions align with agency requirements.

Engage directly with clients and stakeholders such as Illinois DOT and Illinois Tollway to discuss project progress, technical requirements, and design solutions.

Prepare technical reports including Bridge Condition Reports, structural evaluation memos, feasibility studies, and other documentation.

Participate in technical meetings, strategize solutions to complex technical problems, and assist in scope, fee, and project planning.

Identify technical differentiators and develop schemes for key project pursuits.

Provide construction support through shop drawing review, RFI responses, and related construction issues.

Collaborate with other bridge departments across office locations.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering (Master’s, PhD a plus).

Active Structural Engineer (SE) license in Illinois is required; Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

10+ years of experience in structural/bridge engineering design.

Familiarity with Illinois DOT, Illinois Tollway, and Chicago DOT standards and procedures.

Strong knowledge of bridge design methodologies and North American design codes (AASHTO LRFD, AISC, ACI, etc.).

Experience designing multiple bridge types in concrete and steel, including curved structures, retaining walls, culverts, and sign structures.

Proficiency with structural engineering software such as Midas Civil, CSi Bridge, SAP2000, STAAD.Pro, LEAP Bridge, and related tools; proficiency in Mathcad and Excel.

Ability to perform full hand calculations for superstructure and substructure components.

Strong verbal and written communication skills for client coordination and technical reporting.

Salary The starting salary for the successful candidate in this position is competitive and will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, experience, geographic location, internal equity, company policy, and practices. Pay ranges are disclosed for positions and locations where required.
