About the Role
The Fertility Care Surgery RN plays a vital role in supporting patients through their fertility journey by delivering exceptional care in the surgical suite. This position is ideal for compassionate, detail-oriented individuals who excel in fast-paced environments and want to make a meaningful difference. As a Surgery RN, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to provide pre-, intra-, and post-operative care while ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and comfort. This role is located in Chicago, IL and will begin as a per diem position, with the intention of transitioning to full-time. Schedule includes Monday–Friday shifts from 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM, with every other weekend availability.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare patients for procedures, perform preoperative assessment, give discharge instructions, and start IV.
Recover patients after general anesthesia and monitored anesthesia care. Reinforce discharge instructions.
Deliver direct patient care during pre-, intra-, and post-operative phases in the surgical suite.
Accurately document patient care and procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Clearly communicate post-operative instructions to patients and families.
Oversee surgical suite operations, ensuring cleanliness, sterility, and equipment functionality.
Adhere to aseptic techniques, quality control measures, and safety standards.
Initiate emergency protocols as needed and coordinate equipment repairs.
Mentor new staff and provide updates on protocol changes.
Support organizational policies and contribute to process improvements.
Collaborate with the Surgery Manager to assess equipment and supply needs.
Monitor patient conditions and communicate changes to the surgical team.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Position Requirements
Education & Licensure:
Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate’s Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing).
Active RN license issued by the Illinois State Board of Nursing.
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-3 years' experience as a Circulating Nurse in the OR; surgical experience is a plus.
Skills:
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a diverse and fast-paced environment.
Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Compensation:
$39.00-$45.00 per hour
(final offers based on experience, skills, and qualifications).
