Heavy Duty Truck Sales
Summary
The Heavy‑Duty Truck Salesman is responsible for identifying and developing new customer accounts while maintaining strong relationships with existing clients. This role requires meeting or exceeding monthly sales targets through strategic outreach, product knowledge, and exceptional customer service. Success in this position hinges on a proactive approach to sales, a deep understanding of the trucking industry, and the ability to deliver tailored solutions to meet client needs. The Salesman will be responsible for developing new sales accounts and achieving monthly sales goals.
Essential Duties
Sells heavy‑duty trucks and trailers
Assists customers in selecting/ordering trucks by asking questions and listening to their responses
Understands and complies with federal, state, and local regulations that affect the sale of new and used heavy‑duty vehicles
Meets or exceeds objectives for new and/or used truck deliveries established by the dealership
Uses all reasonable methods of prospecting for new and used truck customers daily, either by telephone or by making calls to individuals and businesses outside the dealership
Prepares sales reports and shares them with the Sales Manager; lists who was called, what units were quoted, and units available for sale
Provides follow‑up and ongoing service to existing customers
Offers service to all walk‑in and call‑in customers on assigned floor days
Is proficient in the use of Customer Relationship Management software (CRM)
Has the ability to work with and manage third‑party vendor relationships for body and equipment up‑fit needs necessary to complete customer vehicles
Demonstrates new and used trucks to customers (may include test drives)
Closes new and used truck deals
Writes complete and accurate sales orders, secures deposits, and processes paperwork in accordance with established dealership policies
Prepares purchaser statements
Delivers new trucks, explaining new truck warranty and service policies
Attends sales and training meetings
Studies truck and equipment specifications to continually improve knowledge of product performance and application
Appraises used trucks when necessary
Collects accurate and complete financial data on customers when necessary
Maintains a professional appearance
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
At least two (2) years of experience in sales, preferably in automotive or industrial sales
Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) from an accredited four‑year institution in Business Administration or Accounting preferred
Valid Driver's License is required
Excel experience is required
Work Environment This position may require the employee to drive to other customers' locations for extended periods of time. The role requires frequent travel, independent scheduling, and adaptability to various working conditions, including outdoor environments and industrial settings.
