Duties and Responsibilities
Tenure-track faculty are expected to develop an active program of scholarship that involves undergraduate students in research. Responsibilities typically include supervising independent reading and research projects and honors thesis projects; occasional course instruction and supervision of graduate students in JMU’s M.A. in Psychological Sciences Program may be possible. The successful candidate will also serve as an academic advisor to Psychology majors and contribute to the service activities of the department, college, and university, and often participate in professional service. Psychology is among the most popular programs on campus, serving approximately 1200 undergraduate majors. JMU emphasizes instructional innovation, evidence-based instructional improvement, and engaged learning experiences for undergraduates. Completed doctoral degree in Psychology or a closely related field by July 2026 is required. Practitioner training commensurate with licensure is preferred. Experience teaching Abnormal and/or Clinical Psychology is preferred. Evidence of high-quality undergraduate instruction is preferred. A documented history of recent peer-reviewed scholarship is preferred. History of effective mentoring and research supervision for a wide variety of students is preferred.
