QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires knowledge of accounting and financial record keeping principles and procedures as they relate to school district payroll and related accounting; federal, state, local and District laws, codes, regulations, and standards pertaining to payroll operations and reporting requirements; PERS and STRS reporting requirements, standards, procedures, and methods; data processing as it relates to payroll processing. Must possess the skill to understand and communicate effectively in both oral and written forms without continuous supervision; perform arithmetical calculations accurately and rapidly; quickly identify errors in arithmetical calculations and financial reports; maintain a variety of complex payroll related records and accounts; organize, schedule, and prioritize own work and direct the work of others in a lead capacity; assemble and organize data and prepare worksheets and reports as requested; reconcile differences within a payroll record keeping system using mathematical skills and a thorough understanding of payroll reporting requirements; operate standard office machines and equipment; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties. Must possess the ability serve as a liaison between the payroll section and other District departments, school sites, county office, county auditor, vendors, and governmental agencies regarding payroll related activities, operations, and reporting requirements; inputs payroll information into computer system to include hours worked, absences, leaves, deduction, etc.; calculates retirement deductions, prepares retirement reports, and ensures all retirement monies and reports are received by the State on or before the prescribed deadline; audits District payroll ledgers, accounts, and registers for accuracy and reconciles payroll data; balances payroll accounts; makes District deposits for Federal taxes, State taxes, etc.; provides information to employees regarding payroll related procedures, requirements, and other matters; receives, calculates, and executes judgments, wage attachments, garnishments, etc. ensuring compliance with appropriate laws, codes and regulations; verifies and balances W-2’s annually; researches and provides information regarding payroll operations to management; perform related duties as required. EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION

Three years of increasingly responsible clerical experience in fiscal record keeping work. Completion of the twelfth grade is required, preferably supplemented by college level courses. HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA or G.E.D.

DUTIES OF POSITION

To direct, coordinate, and participate in the processing and maintenance of payroll related activities, transactions, and record keeping operations for the District. Employees in this classification receive limited supervision from the Accounting Supervisor within a broad framework of policies and procedures. Employees in this classification direct and coordinate the work of others in a lead supervisory capacity. This job class exercises responsibility for ensuring that payroll related transactions, reports and records are processed within strict time lines and meet all necessary reporting requirements. Selected employee in this position also provides lead direction to payroll technicians and others regarding usage, changes, or modifications to the District’s computerized payroll processing system. This job class requires a broad technical knowledge of payroll reporting timelines, methods, and requirements associated with both classified and certificated service. STARTING SALARY

$4,861.60 (monthly) NUMBER OF MONTHS

12 (to begin as soon as possible) NUMBER OF HOURS

8 (daily working hours 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.)
