Position Overview The General Manager (GM) leads a single Pet Care Center, guiding the team toward Petco’s vision of “Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World.” The GM develops a high‑performing team, drives sales growth, and focuses on animal welfare, guest service, and operational excellence. The role requires passion for pets, leadership ability, process excellence, and a results‑oriented mindset.
Position Responsibilities The GM consistently executes all Pet Care Center activity to create the best partner, guest, and pet experience. Responsibilities include:
Build and maintain a diverse, high‑performing team that embodies the Petco brand.
Attract, hire, and retain top talent.
Train, coach, and develop leaders and hourly partners in all functions.
Create a professional environment that fosters growth and engagement.
Lead a culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
Ensure quick, courteous service and strong product knowledge.
Manage partner performance and drive continuous improvement.
Meet or exceed sales, profitability, and operational goals.
Adjust labor and payroll to maximize productivity.
Review financial and operational reporting.
Identify improvement opportunities and leverage Petco programs.
Market the store, oversee community events, and promote animal‑welfare initiatives.
Maintain animal health, appearance, welfare, and safety.
Manage merchandising, inventory, and pricing standards.
Submit accounting, inventory, and payroll paperwork on time.
Ensure store appearance meets Petco standards and safety procedures.
Maintain security, inventory control, and loss‑prevention standards.
Open and close the store following policy and safety guidelines.
Model leadership, safety, collaboration, talent development, and engagement.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED.
Proficiency in business, finance acumen, analysis, and problem‑solving.
Excellent communication and computer skills.
Three or more years of management experience (retail preferred).
Strong customer‑service orientation and animal interest.
Valid driver’s license.
Supervisory Responsibility The GM directly supervises a team of leaders and is responsible for all Pet Care Center partners.
Contacts Position has continuous contact with the public, other departments, distribution centers, and support centers.
Salary Range $46,000.00 – $84,500.00
