The Utah Labor Commission, Utah Occupational Safety and Health (UOSH) Division is seeking a qualified professional to fill their vacant Safety and Health Consultant position. This position includes up to three days of telework per week (only Utah residents are eligible to apply). ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

You will independently schedule and perform a full range of workplace safety and health inspections throughout the State of Utah in every industry to evaluate employer compliance with state occupational safety and health regulations as part of the UOSH Consultation program. This may include: Researching specific safety and health laws and rules incorporated by the state. Reviewing and analyzing safety and health programs to assess effectiveness and compliance. Identifying physical and chemical hazards. Maintaining detailed inspection records. Preparing inspection files. Writing narratives and technical reports. Providing compliance assistance, making recommendations, giving appropriate advice, and/or facilitating decisions. Delivering presentations, training, or instruction to staff, management, clients, or the general public. Success in this role requires excellent time management, self-directed productivity, and a rapid ability to learn and adapt. We are looking for a candidate who welcomes feedback and is committed to ongoing professional development. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience conducting workplace safety and health audits to identify and mitigate hazardous conditions. Experience reading and interpreting federal and state laws, regulations, and rules. PREFERRED

Recent experience conducting workplace safety and health inspections and/or investigations. Expertise in Occupational Safety and Health: in-depth knowledge of current safety practices, principles, and the recognition and control of workplace hazards, with the ability to evaluate safety management systems and implement solutions to mitigate risks. Industrial hygiene training or experience. Experience as a safety consultant. Excellent writing skills: the ability to convey complex information in a clear, concise, and professional manner. Experience in preparing reports, official communications, or similar materials is highly valued. Strong organizational skills and self-management: demonstrated ability to effectively manage your own schedule, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Capable of working independently while maintaining a high level of productivity and attention to detail. Strong interview and communication skills: proven ability to interview employees and management to gather critical information, along with excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate professionally, tactfully, and sensitively with diverse individuals. Public speaking and reporting: comfort and competence in speaking to groups, delivering training sessions, or presenting findings to leadership or external stakeholders. Health Insurance - Public Employee Health Program (PEHP):

3 medical plan options. Traditional or High Deductible Health Plan. Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

Employees with service credit prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System. Employees hired on or after 7/1/2011 have two options for retirement in Tier II: Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System (employer contributions to both plans, approximately 10% of salary) or Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan (employer contributions to a 401(k) plan only). Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

Paid Time Off:

Annual leave and sick leave accrue at 4 hours per pay period each. Annual leave amounts increase with years of service. We have 12 paid holidays.

Additional notes: Valid driver’s license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in this state per UCA 53-3-202(1)(a). Job: #37012, Safety and Health Officer. Remote work eligibility is determined by agency management and can change at any time. Effective July 1, 2021, in-state work rules require all work to be performed within the state borders. DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers. Prior UOSH employees may be hired at their previous wage. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time. Risks may involve safety precautions and/or equipment (e.g., operating machines, contagious diseases, hazardous chemicals). Work requires physical exertion and may include standing, walking on uneven surfaces, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. repeatedly or for long periods.
