HB NEXT is seeking an Asheville, NC based Environmental Consultant / NPDES Inspector to join one of our growing teams in North Carolina. The

full‑time

candidate will be self‑motivated, enjoy the outdoors, and appreciate flexible hours. HB NEXT is seeking a customer focused candidate with the ability to grow new markets and desire to be a part of a dedicated team of construction and inspection professionals.

Environmental Consultants are self‑motivated and detail‑oriented professionals who work outdoors in diverse environmental conditions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as consultants must collaborate effectively with on‑site client staff. The role requires proficiency in documentation to ensure inspection reports are comprehensive, clearly identifying deficiencies, and recording resolutions promptly. While familiarity with construction is advantageous, it is not required. Effective time management and comfort with solitary work are important, as consultants often work independently and commute between project sites.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct stormwater and NPDES inspections on construction sites with local issuing authority mandates (7‑day, 14‑day, Post Rain).

Collaborate with site personnel to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Document findings and provide recommendations using HB NEXT’s proprietary software.

Travel to various job sites across the region.

Acquire local environmental certifications within the first 60 days.

Gain working knowledge of state and local General Permits and complete field training, including reading ES&CP plans, using inspection reporting platforms, and reviewing proper BMP installation and maintenance.

Skills and Qualifications

Prior construction or field inspection experience highly preferred.

Reliable personal transportation.

Strong communication skills and a self‑starter mindset.

Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.

Eagerness to grow with the business and engage in continuous learning.

Effective management of time and resources, with comfort in solitary work environments.
