The Department of Environmental Quality is looking to fill an Environmental Scientist position in the Division of Air Quality. This position may be filled at any of the advertised levels listed below. Salary depends on experience and the job level offered within the series. Job Description

As a new source review (NSR) Air Quality Modeler, you will typically: Perform and review air quality dispersion modeling analyses for air quality impacts from new or modified sources of air pollution. Review and provide comments on air quality modeling results from other agencies and support air agency dispersion modeling as needed. Provide expert meteorological and dispersion modeling support for air quality monitoring and modeling studies. Assist in review and analysis of environmental science, data, and policy. Prepare reports and communicate results to stakeholders and the Division. Best Qualified Candidate

The best qualified candidate will possess: Experience in EPA modeling requirements and preparing or reviewing regulatory dispersion modeling analyses for NSR permitting. Experience running and interpreting results from air quality models such as AERMOD and CALPUFF. Familiarity with meteorological data processing using AERMET and CALMET. Familiarity with emissions inventories necessary for dispersion modeling, including use of AP-42. Experience with Utah modeling guidance and the EPA Guideline on Air Quality Models. Familiarity with computer programming and data visualization. Experience managing disk drives and data storage. Experience writing technical documentation. The ability to communicate clearly and work well in a team environment. Job Series

The selected candidate may be brought in as an Environmental Scientist I with a salary range of $25.27 - $37.95, Environmental Scientist II with $29.73 - $44.66, Environmental Scientist III with $34.98 - $52.56, or Environmental Scientist IV with $39.02 - $58.61. Preferences

Preference will be given for a Bachelor's or higher degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, environmental engineering, or a relevant field. Risks requiring safety precautions, e.g., working around operating machines, contagious diseases, or hazardous chemicals. Work may require physical exertion, such as standing, walking over rough surfaces, bending, crouching, reaching, lifting moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.), etc.
