Summary

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care guided by the American Nurses Association (ANA) scope of practice. The RN collaborates with patients, family/significant others, peers, physicians, and other interdisciplinary team members to deliver healthcare services. The RN assesses patient needs, implements and evaluates care plans, and demonstrates leadership skills and a commitment to professional accountability and growth. Responsibilities

Completes patient assessment and reassessment as clinically indicated:

Documents detailed information, incorporating the plan of care, interventions, and outcomes reflecting the patient’s physical, mental, and emotional status. Ensures appropriate documentation based on the level of care, including transfer/discharge documentation as indicated.

Follows the five Rights of Medication Administration. Verbalizes to patients/family/significant other the medication they are receiving, assesses the patient prior to administering medications, noting allergies, parameters, potential side effects, effectiveness, and intervening as needed. Reassesses and documents response according to hospital policy. Coordinates and supervises the delivery of nursing care, including the delegation of tasks:

Maintains accountability for care delegated.

Actively works to promote a culture of safety:

Assesses patients for potential safety risks. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient safety and initiates interventions related to identified risk factors. Conducts bedside shift report and bedside rounds with a peer on assigned patients at change of shift. Demonstrates quality by documenting the application of the nursing process in a responsible, accountable, and ethical manner. Ensures patient hand‑off as appropriate when leaving for breaks.

Assesses learning needs of patient/family/significant other, plans and provides appropriate instruction using applicable teaching methods, and documents patient/family response to teaching. Cares for specific patient populations as required. Delivers Patient‑Centered Care:

Current and unobstructed New York State Registered Nurse (NY Hospitals) Current and unobstructed Connecticut Registered Nurse License (CT Hospitals) New graduates awaiting licensure at the discretion of the Chief Nursing Officer (CT only) American Nurses Association endorsed Certifications or Academy of Medical‑Surgical Nurses Certification preferred (based on specialty hours of work requirement) Training Requirements

Basic Life Support (BLS) – Required upon hire Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Required by end of orientation, required on specific units (ICU, ED, etc.) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required by end of orientation, required in ED, PACU, and pediatric units Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required by end of orientation for NICU/MCH/LDRP/DR units Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – Required within 1 year of hire for selected units Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) – Required within 1 year of hire, special emphasis on ED and ICU Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) – Required within 1 year of hire for ED RN Transcarotid Artery Revascularization (TCAR) – Required within 1 year of hire for selected ICUs Additional specialty training (CPI, S.T.A.B.L.E, Chemotherapy Certification) – Required within specific timeframes (6–12 months post‑hire) Working Conditions
