Overview
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) invites applications and nominations for an experienced academic leader to serve as senior vice provost for academic affairs (SVPAA). The SVPAA leads academic strategy with a focus on student success and advancing NJIT’s strategic goals. NJIT is a polytechnic university with the nation’s top engineering and technology programs, a Carnegie R1 research designation, and designation as a Minority-Serving Institution (MSI), with AANAPISI and HSI designations. The university serves more than 12,000 students and supports six schools and colleges, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary, computing-intensive curricula and workforce-ready learning.
Reporting to the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, the SVPAA is a senior member of NJIT’s leadership team and advocates for student success. The SVPAA oversees the Office of Graduate Studies, the Office of Undergraduate Studies, University Libraries, the Office of Global Initiatives, and the Center for Educational Innovation and Excellence, and collaborates with the Provost’s Office, college deans, the Faculty Senate, and the Division of Student Affairs to advance student achievement and satisfaction.
Responsibilities
Serve as lead architect of student-centered academic practice and help shape and execute an integrated academic vision aligned with institutional goals to elevate the student experience.
Guide multi-year planning across key academic units in partnership with the Provost, ensuring measurable improvements in student success and satisfaction.
Champion cross-divisional coordination to streamline student services and lead accreditation and assessment efforts to drive continuous improvement.
Unify undergraduate and graduate strategies to support learners throughout their academic journey.
Foster collaboration and shared purpose across divisions, enhancing the design of programs, support services, and university policies to optimize the student experience.
Contribute to university-wide decision-making as a member of NJIT’s senior leadership and the President’s Council, and support the Division of Student Affairs and other stakeholders.
Qualifications
Earned doctorate or terminal degree.
Significant experience in academic administration with a track record of improving student success.
Strong understanding of STEM education, modern approaches to student success, and evidence-based practices.
Experience with data-informed decision-making and collaborative leadership.
Forward-thinking problem solver and effective communicator who can build trust and shared purpose.
