Overview

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum or other frequency dictated by the business. The Role: We are seeking a motivated candidate for a Lead Engine Calibration Engineer position in GM's Global Engine Calibration group at the Milford Proving Ground. The selected candidate will work on GM’s engine programs and be responsible for leading a program calibration team in developing and releasing calibrations for the engine controller. The position involves significant in-vehicle and lab work, along with technical leadership of a shared group of calibration engineers assigned to a particular program. Lead Calibration Engineers provide day-to-day technical direction to the calibration engineers on their program and represent their team in broader vehicle and propulsion system development activities. Lead Calibration Engineers are also responsible for planning and executing calibration activities including development trips, calibration reviews, and vehicle property usage. Candidates should possess specific calibration release experience in a complex technology area, along with demonstrated leadership, planning, communication, teamwork, and prioritization skills. Lead Calibration Engineers are expected to work cross-functionally with other groups and assist in the resolution of system/vehicle-level performance issues. Responsibilities

Develop and optimize control calibrations to meet performance and timing requirements

Deliver on-time and defect-free calibration releases per milestone requirements

Provide technical direction to assigned calibration engineers on program

Plan calibration activities and resources

Create and manage calibration responsibility map in CRETA

Conduct calibration reviews to ensure high quality calibrations

Manage calibration change control, including approvals

Manage vehicle development property usage

Plan and execute calibration development activities, including test trips

Assist calibration engineers as needed with issue resolution

Mentor newer calibration engineers

Diagnose and correct vehicle, system, and controls deficiencies

Support resolution of vehicle, plant, durability/lab, or customer issues

Generate requests for software changes, develop new features/functions and requirements

Participate in propulsion and vehicle development forums (PPIT, PAPIR, CPIT, VPIT, dev/val, etc)

Utilize Problem Resolution Tracking System (PRTS)

Adhere to all safety precautions and requirements; treat safety as the top priority during all work activities

Qualifications (Required)

Bachelors of Science in Engineering

7+ years of experience in the automotive industry, 3 years calibration experience

Self-motivated to work independently and effectively with others with minimal guidance

Demonstrated ability to lead projects. Demonstrated conflict resolution skills. High level of interpersonal skills and desire to lead/train less experienced calibrators

Demonstrated understanding of complex system functions (i.e. engine, transmission, electric propulsion), specifically controls and related vehicle performance interactions.

Competent user of INCA/ETAS/CRETA/Serial Data Suite and other calibration tools

Manage workload and deliver calibrations to a program's strict timetable

Emerging leader that takes unpopular stands if necessary; encourages direct and tough debate but isn’t afraid to end and move on; is looked to for direction in a crisis; faces adversity head on; energized by tough challenges.

Ability to motivate and influence others with management support.

Preferred Qualifications

Master of Engineering degree

10+ years of calibration experience in the automotive industry

Cross-sector experience preferred (Algorithm, Hardware Systems Development, DRE, etc)

Sector Area calibration proficiency
