## ***Current Employees: If you are currently employed at any of the Universities of Wisconsin, log in to Workday to apply through the internal application process.***## **Position Title:**Assistant Professor - Tenure-Track - COEPS | Curriculum and Instruction## **Job Category:**Faculty## **Employment Type:**Regular## **Job Profile:**Assistant Professor## **Job Duties:**The Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education and Professional Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater seeks a tenure-track faculty member in the area of Secondary Language Arts Education beginning August 2026.This is a full-time position with responsibilities for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the licensable program area for English and Language Arts, research, and service to the university, community and profession. Research and teaching expertise should complement existing faculty expertise and reflect knowledge and experience aligned with current NCTE guidelines and statements from the National Council for the Teaching of English (NCTE). Specific consideration will be given to candidates with knowledge of sociolinguistics, transnational multiliteracies, Indigenous and land-based pedagogies and literacy practices, critical literacies, or digital and media literacies. Successful candidates must show proven commitments to preparing teachers to serve learners with a wide range of linguistic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.**Job Details**:The successful candidate will be able to teach secondary language arts teaching methods courses and courses within the undergraduate English and Language Arts teaching license program. The candidate will also be expected to pursue an active research agenda that results in publications or presentations and contributes to advancing the department, university, the profession, and society. The candidate will also be expected to participate in service activities and embrace the principles of inclusiveness and belonging as a member of the university community. Candidates who do interdisciplinary scholarship and teaching of literacy and language arts are encouraged to apply. This includes, but is not limited to: critical and anti-oppressive language arts education, critical and transnational multiliteracies, translanguaging, ethnic studies, disability studies-informed approaches to culturally sustaining education, community-driven education, Indigenous and land-based pedagogies and literacy practices, digital literacies (including but not limited to the critical study and use of AI in English and Language Arts education), literacy policy, or neurodiversity.**Responsibilities**:Full-time teaching responsibilities include methods and other preparatory courses for teaching middle and high school English and Language Arts and writing, possible reading/literacy courses, advising undergraduate students, and supervision of clinical placements. Research expectations include publications and presentations and are explicitly outlined in the tenure and promotion guidelines provided to tenure-track faculty. In addition, faculty members serve as advisors/mentors to students and are encouraged to engage students in undergraduate research or other scholarly and creative activities. Service responsibilities include committee service at the departmental, college, and university levels as well as participation in community organizations and the discipline as relevant to the candidate’s expertise and interest. Faculty at UW-Whitewater may be required to teach online and/or hybrid classes, evening and/or weekend classes and provide service to the university and the local community in a variety of modalities, including mentoring students and providing professional development for colleagues, schools, and community groups.All students, faculty, and staff are expected to ensure their materials are digitally accessible and utilize standard technology platforms supported by UW-Whitewater. Examples include, but are not limited to, Navigate, Canvas, and Microsoft Office applications – including Outlook, which is essential for university email communications and scheduling.**Department Information**:in the UW-Whitewater College of Education & Professional Studies (COEPS) provides students with the opportunity to prepare for careers as teachers. Students may choose from multiple programs within one of three grade bands: Early Childhood, Elementary and Middle, Middle and Secondary, or K-12. Each of the programs fully prepare students for teaching licensure through the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI). We also offer pathways for add-on licensure for certified teachers and graduate programs in Professional Studies, Higher Education Leadership, Elementary and Middle Education, Early Childhood Education Policy, Reading and Dyslexia Intervention, and Business Education. We are proud of our programs that lead to licensure either as a first-time license or add-on licenses. As they move through their coursework, students combine a commitment to education with a strong liberal arts foundation, a teaching major and the study of teaching. All students engage in at least three school-based clinical experiences that allow them to apply their knowledge to actual classroom situations, preparing them to be effective teachers and instructional leaders in our changing schools.
