Overview Materials Tester. Under the direction of a Senior Transportation Engineer, the incumbent performs testing and analysis on construction materials such as soils, aggregates, asphalt and concrete samples. The incumbent must possess current certification in the California Test Methods and certification in the Fundamentals of Radiation Safety and Nuclear Gage Operation. The incumbent attends pre-construction meetings, performs equipment calibration, and assists the Senior Transportation Engineer with inventory control. The incumbent may serve as an Assistant Radiation Safety Officer under the direction of the Radiation Safety Officer and supervision of the Senior Transportation Engineer. This position requires both day and night work to perform field testing through Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, and materials testing in the district Lab. The incumbent must be capable of moving up to 75 pounds and must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license when operating state vehicles. Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN exam. For those without current eligibility and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Santa Fe Springs, CA 90670, Los Angeles County. Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment. This position requires the incumbent to work independently and to work both indoors and outdoors. Outdoor activity may include carrying field testing equipment, moving laboratory samples from the sample loading dock area into the laboratory facility, preparing testing samples, and sawing samples. May be exposed to loud noise, extreme heat and/or cold, dust. May require day and night work, weekends and holidays. Requires working at various locations within District 7 boundaries to meet operational needs. Indoor activities may involve exposure to extreme heat, dusty environments, odor and contact with solvents. Minimum Requirements You will find the Minimum Requirements in the Class Specification.
