Join our team as a Lead Patient Care Technician, where you will play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care and supporting team success. In this leadership position, you will work closely with nursing staff and department leadership to ensure smooth operations and high-quality care.
As a Lead PCT, you will provide hands-on patient care, assist with clinical procedures, and serve as a resource for other team members. You'll also help onboard and mentor new staff, support scheduling, and contribute to department initiatives. This position offers 12-hour shifts with both day and night options available, and includes every other weekend rotation. Responsibilities:
Receive and apply feedback constructively; identify learning needs and seek support for growth.
Communicate effectively with unit director and team to plan and prioritize tasks.
Report equipment issues promptly and maintain professional relationships across departments.
Support unit-wide tasks such as answering call lights, passing meal trays, and patient transport.
Demonstrate clear communication and cultural sensitivity within the healthcare team.
Promote safety for patients and self; maintain accountability and motivation in the workplace.
Perform core nursing assistant duties: vital signs, blood glucose, I&O, weights, specimen collection, Foley care.
Carry out additional clinical tasks: phlebotomy, dressing changes, catheter removal, bladder scans, and point-of-care testing.
May assist with advanced procedures based on department needs: wound care, EKGs, NG tube management.
Provide direct patient care and assist with therapies and daily living activities.
Observe and report patient status changes; educate patients and families under RN guidance.
Adhere strictly to patient care policies, safety protocols, and documentation standards.
Participate in onboarding, precepting, and mentoring new staff; support departmental initiatives.
Engage in scheduling and committee work; contribute to quality improvement projects.
Support UPMC Experience initiatives including AIDET coaching, rounding, and check-ins.
*Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
*Performs other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent.
3 years of healthcare experience required
Successful completion of PCT, Senior training (if not already complete at time of hire)
Successful completion of basic information system training.
Microcomputer experience preferred.
Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.
Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
in the course of their duties, be in rooms where medications are stored or may transport medications when they transport patients. Transportation of medication is limited from one department to another.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireCPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire ACLS preferred
