This role is part of the Twilio Engage Audiences team, which builds, maintains, and continuously improves the user interfaces and APIs that power Segment’s audience‑building capabilities. You will work on large‑scale data processing, orchestration, and integrations with downstream systems to enable real‑time and warehouse‑sourced audiences for personalized engagement.
Responsibilities
Design and build robust, scalable backend systems and APIs that power audience creation, segmentation, and activation across Segment’s data platform.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with design, product, and other engineers to define solutions that balance usability, performance, and long‑term architecture.
Communicate technical decisions clearly, articulating trade‑offs, customer impact, and team alignment.
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
Troubleshoot and improve system reliability, debugging issues and refining operational tooling and processes.
Support strategic initiatives that impact the broader Twilio Engage platform and engineering organization.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience building enterprise‑ready web applications.
4+ years of experience writing production‑grade backend code in a modern language (NodeJS, Go, Python, Java, Scala, or similar).
Experience working with stakeholders at all levels—able to dive into the nuts and bolts as needed.
Experience with cloud‑based infrastructure (AWS preferred).
Strong collaboration skills and ability to foster an inclusive environment.
Self‑driven ownership of tasks and ability to ship rapidly.
Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
Bias to action and rapid iteration.
Familiarity with AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, CI/CD pipelines, testing, and automation.
Experience contributing to architecture and design of new and current systems.
Ability to learn and own multiple platform domains from inception to maintenance.
Location This role will be remote, but is not eligible to be hired in Oakland, San Francisco, or San Jose, CA.
Travel May be required to travel occasionally for project or team in‑person meetings.

Compensation
Based in Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Vermont, or Washington, D.C.: $138,700 – $173,400.
Based in New York, New Jersey, Washington State, or California (outside the Bay Area): $146,800 – $183,600.
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, California: $163,100 – $203,900.
Eligible for equity and corporate bonus plans. Standard benefits include health insurance, 401(k), paid sick time, personal time off, and parental leave.
