Base pay range: $330,000.00/yr - $390,000.00/yr
Summary
Orthopedic surgeons diagnose musculoskeletal problems, perform or prescribe treatments, and assist with rehabilitation. Orthopedic physicians may assist with managing rehabilitation to regain movement, strength, range of motion, and flexibility following an injury or surgery.
Qualifications
Qualifications are consistent with VA policy; applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements
Citizenship: United States Citizenship or non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
Degree: Doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved VA school.
License: Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia.
Residency training: Completed residency in an accredited core specialty training program leading to board certification.
PRPs must be fully licensed physicians and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee‑basis.
Language: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Board Certified or Board Eligible Orthopedic Surgeon.
Physical requirements: Visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity; ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, pull, push; ability to wear protective clothing; exposure to potentially combative patients; must be mature and flexible.
Must be able to perform CPR per ACLS/BLS protocols.
Duties
The announcement remains open until December 22, 2025.
Eligibility application cut‑off: October 27, 2025, with subsequent cuts every 5 days.

Education duties: Instruct and educate residents.
