Network Administrator Washington, D.C.

Job Summary IT Veteransis is looking for a skilled part‑time Network Administrator to join our team and support secure network technologies in a fast‑paced operational IT environment. In this role, you’ll monitor, maintain, and improve network infrastructure, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure network security and performance. You’ll also be key in developing and implementing network processes, incident response plans, and performance improvements.

You must have a TS/SCI clearance.

Weekend Schedule Saturday & Sunday only; choice of shift:

1st Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM

2nd Shift: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM

3rd Shift: 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Key Responsibilities

Monitor network performance, availability, and security using NOC monitoring tools

Respond to network alerts, diagnose failures, and implement corrective actions

Manage and configure routers, switches, firewalls, and other network devices

Develop and update NOC processes, playbooks, and incident response plans

Apply security patches, updates, and firewall configurations

Maintain up-to-date network diagrams, documentation, and inventory records

Conduct security audits and assessments to identify vulnerabilities and areas for improvement

Investigate security incidents to determine root causes and implement remediation strategies

Perform threat intelligence analysis to identify and mitigate emerging cyber threats

Analyze security logs and network traffic for anomalies in real time

Interface with customers to resolve network and connectivity-related issues

Work hands‑on with Cisco switch, router, and firewall infrastructure

Required Skills & Experience

Active TS/SCI security clearance

5+ years of experience managing the provisioning, installation, and support of network communications

5+ years of experience in advanced troubleshooting, network security, and cloud networking

5+ years of experience in a NOC environment

Strong understanding of network communications standards and concepts, including:

Physical layer media (copper, fiber)

Ethernet (switching, spanning‑tree, MAC addressing)

TCP/IP (UDP vs TCP, subnetting, DHCP, gateway, access‑control lists)

Higher‑level protocols (DNS, IPSec, HTTP)

Experience with implementation and operation of cross‑domain solutions

Understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP)

Experience with NOC tools like SolarWinds, Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, or Wireshark

Experience administering network monitoring tools such as NeuralStar and Splunk; ManageEngine a plus

Hands‑on experience with Cisco equipment – switches and routers

Familiarity with ITIL frameworks, incident management, and service desk operations

High‑level networking and network security certifications such as CISSP, CCNA, MCSE, Security+ or equivalent
