Sr. Financial Analyst, Financial Reporting
The School of Medicine (SOM) Financial Planning & Operations (FP&O) team is seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to support core financial operations, including reporting, compliance, and accounting activities. This role collaborates with SOM departments and Central Finance to ensure accurate, consistent, and policy‑aligned financial reporting. The analyst performs complex analysis and planning to assist management in establishing and controlling budgets, setting financial goals, making projections, and meeting fiscal objectives. The analyst supports budgeting, financial planning, revenue and expenditure monitoring against budget, reconciliations, consolidation, and data extraction from various accounting and information systems. Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Interpret and review data prepared by others to evaluate past financial performance and make projections. Analyze, coordinate, and consolidate departmental financial information for developing annual operating and/or capital budgets and five‑year plans. Extract and define complex financial data; conduct studies to determine cost and financial results of business activities and improve unit effectiveness. Make budget adjustments, implement cost‑improvement measures, and prepare budget proposals for senior management. Create financial systems and controls for processes that provide tracking, validation, and reporting; implement quality control and process improvements. Review proposed operating and financial plans, recommend actions to improve financial performance. Evaluate and analyze capital expenditure proposals, profit plans, operating records, and financial statements. Oversee budget accounts, provide oversight for fund expenditures, and advise stakeholders on resolving funding shortfalls. Keep abreast of laws and regulations that impact compliance and act as a resource for financial staff. Utilize comprehensive knowledge of applicable laws and the university's financial accounting system to ensure internal and external compliance. Use software such as spreadsheets, relational databases, statistical and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate, and format data and reports. Complete other duties as assigned. Accounting Operations & Compliance
Manage key components of the monthly and year‑end close process, including journal entries and variance analysis. Apply GAAP and funds management principles to ensure accurate, compliant financial reporting. Maintain and enforce internal controls related to non‑sponsored financial master data and funds management policies. Serve as a subject‑matter expert for reconciling and analyzing financial transactions. Provide guidance and training on accounting processes and compliance requirements. Review and approve master data requests and train departments on internal processes and compliance standards. Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field. Five years of progressively responsible related financial experience. Experience applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, as permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Preferred Qualifications
Experience preparing financial statements across multiple units. Working knowledge of SAP system. Experience with other data reporting tools, such as Tableau. Technical Qualifications & Specialized Certifications
