Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program.
You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Program approval determines the award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years).
Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship. Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine from a VA‑approved school.
Full, unrestricted medical license in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia.
Residency training completed in an ACGME or AOA accredited core specialty program, or an equivalent program with a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice.
Current, complete, and unrestricted board certification (or eligibility) in Gastroenterology from the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
Proficiency in spoken and written English.
Physical ability to perform the duties required for the role, as defined by the Physical Requirements section of this announcement.
Duties
The VA Northeast Ohio Healthcare System is recruiting for a Physician (Gastroenterologist) who will function in the Gastroenterology department within Medicine Service.
This position will start at the Louis Stokes VA Medical Center campus and relocate to the future Hudson VA Clinic upon opening in 2027.
Clinical duties include diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies, managing GI disorders such as liver conditions and inflammatory bowel disease, and building a thriving GI specialty program in Community‑Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) across Northeast Ohio.
Applicants must be board‑certified or board‑eligible in Gastroenterology, with proficiency in all basic endoscopic procedures.
Work schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.
Academic appointment potential through Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
