The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System (GCVHCS) is seeking a Physician – Diagnostic Radiologist who will develop strategic management plans for the Imaging Service, assign tasks to staff, resolve conflicts, implement changes in plans and methodology, and interpret policy. Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic requirements listed below and any additional requirements specified in the announcement. Pending completion of training or license requirements, applicants may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements
United States Citizenship: Non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy. Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine. Degree obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency programs may be ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with at least five years of U.S. practice experience deemed appropriate by the Medical Staff Executive Committee. Procedural proficiency in interpreting X‑ray, CT, ultrasound, MRI, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, DEXA, PET, and cardiac imaging. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience
Three years of experience as a practicing General Radiologist; fellowship training in advanced imaging modalities; knowledge of ACR RIS/RAD, TI‑RADS, LI‑RADS, BI‑RADS, NI‑RADS, O‑RADS, and CAD‑RADS reporting systems. Physical Requirements
Moderate lifting and carrying (15–44 pounds); straight pulling, pushing, and use of fingers for one hour; walking, standing, and repeated bending for specified durations; visual and auditory requirements including depth perception and valid vision; ability to communicate verbally. Duties
Review imaging orders and consult with referring physicians. Obtain patient histories from electronic medical records and conduct patient interviews. Determine appropriate diagnostic imaging modalities and protocols. Communicate with specialized imaging staff and provide supervision based on qualifications and scope of practice. Serve as subject matter expert on imaging examinations for referring physicians. Make recommendations for diagnosis and treatment based on extensive medical knowledge. Prescribe contrast, medication, and radiation doses following industry standards and ALARA principles. Recognize and treat complications during and after procedures. Participate in quality improvement activities and continuing education. Educate imaging staff on new processes and techniques. Report and address poor image quality or performance. Adhere to radiation safety program and administer radiation with occupational and public safety considerations. Open Continuous Announcement
