The Sleep and Circadian Physiology Laboratory (PI: Christopher Depner) in the Department of Health and Kinesiology is recruiting a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator to help conduct an NIH funded study focused on sleep loss and cardiometabolic health outcomes. The study investigates how experimental sleep loss and circadian misalignment impact food intake and insulin sensitivity in adults. Responsibilities include executing study visits, participant recruitment, scheduling, participant communication, data collection, and training/supervision of undergraduate researchers and hourly staff. May assist in blood collection by venipuncture or IV. Study visits occur in clinical research settings at the University of Utah Hospital and the College of Health Research Complex. The protocol involves 24-hour, 6-day per cycle stays in the sleep laboratory, with about 25% to 75% of shifts overnight depending on scheduling. Timing of other hours will be flexible. This position is patient-sensitive and requires immunization per CDC standards and hospital policy, with exemptions available for medical or religious reasons where applicable. The department may hire at the following levels and pay rates based on business need. Responsibilities
Implements sleep loss study protocol; schedules study visits, oversees participant recruitment and retention. Follow detailed and time-sensitive study protocols; work ~5-15 late night, early morning, or overnight shifts per month. Help manage a team of ~15 undergraduate research assistants, 3-5 graduate students, and 2-5 research assistants; assist with training. Oversee and organize study visit preparation, including equipment checks and participant reminders. Document adverse events and protocol deviations during study visits. Monitor enrollment goals to achieve recruitment and retention targets quarterly. Assist research nurses with blood collection, sample processing, and storage. Minimum Qualifications
Equivalency statement: 1 year of higher education may substitute for 1 year of directly related work experience (e.g., a bachelor’s degree = 4 years of related experience). Departments may hire at the following levels: I, II, III with corresponding experience requirements as listed above. Preferences
Bachelor’s or master’s degree (or training) in a health-related field. 1+ years of healthcare experience preferred. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of Good Clinical Practices, FDA, HIPAA, and IRB regulations preferred. Completion of University Research Education Clinical Certification within one year of hire. Phlebotomy or EMT certification preferred or the ability to obtain within 4 months. IRB CITI Course or IATA DGR training may be required within a specified timeframe. Additional Information
