About This Opportunity We are seeking a

Tool Development Engineer (Engineer II or Sr Engineer I)

who will focus exclusively on the development, management, and strategic evolution of analytical tools that support our engineering and technical delivery teams. Cascade has a robust portfolio of in-house analysis tools. As Cascade continues to grow and diversify offerings, this role will be tasked with evolving the existing portfolio and ensuring that clear documentation, training, and communication of tools allow for standardized use across growing teams. This role will also be future-looking to ensure that Cascade leverages other programming languages and AI appropriately for technical analysis.

What You Will Be Doing

Maintain and enhance our suite of internal analysis tools

Respond to tool improvement requests and build new tools as needed

Provide helpdesk support for quick fixes and troubleshooting

Develop and deliver training materials and documentation for tool users

External Tool Research & Integration

Evaluate publicly available tools (e.g., DOE MEASUR) and advise on their applicability

Identify opportunities and develop guidance to integrate external tools into technical work

Strategic Tool Development

Provide guidance on tool development beyond Microsoft Excel, including Python and other programming languages

Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify scalable, maintainable, and innovative tool solutions

Research and roadmap AI applications that can enhance our engineering work including analysis, report writing, QCs, note taking, project management, etc.

Work closely with the IT Director to implement AI-driven features and automation into existing and future tools

Budget-Conscious Development

Where feasible, align tool development efforts with existing program budgets, recognizing that such opportunities may be limited

This is a full-time, exempt position

located close to an existing Cascade Office – Portland, OR; Chicago, IL; Denver, CO; Salt Lake City, UT.

Minimal travel is expected for this role; internal in-person meetings as necessary.

Qualifications Applicants for this role are

required

to have:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and 3+ years of experience delivering energy efficiency work, or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Experience building and utilizing analysis tools to deliver energy efficiency work for both DSM programs and corporate direct.

Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and VBA , including developing and troubleshooting macros in Excel.

Experience with other programming languages including Python

A successful candidate should also demonstrate these preferred characteristics and/or skills:

Experience working with complex data analysis

Experience using AI for technical analysis and/or a strong desire to dive into AI

The

hiring target range

for this position as a

national average is Engineer II: $77,400 - $96,800 and Sr. Engineer I: $96,800 - $121,000 – final salary will be adjusted depending on geographical location of final candidate.

However, the final salary offered may vary depending on non-discriminatory factors such as job-related knowledge, skills and experiences, and internal equity.
