## Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About this role**Principal Adviser Food Risk Management****Role type**: Permanent**Location**: Wellington**Salary band & range**: General Salary Range B $138,938 to $162,716 depending on skills and experience.**About the Role - Kōrero mō te Tūranga**As Principal Adviser Food Risk Management, you'll be at the heart of New Zealand Food Safety's Food Risk Management directorate, providing high-level strategic advice and leadership across the food regulation, emerging risk, readiness and response, and food compliance functions. You'll work closely with the Director and senior leaders to drive initiatives that ensure our food safety system is agile, resilient, and ready to respond to challenges.In this role you will:* Lead and advise on projects that enhance food safety outcomes.* Provide timely, high-quality advice to the Director and senior stakeholders.* Champion collaboration across the Food Risk Management directorate and NZFS to align work programmes.* Build strong relationships across MPI, government and industry to support system-wide resilience.* Demonstrate a high degree of agility in a dynamic environment, confidently prioritising work and adapting to shifting demands.* Understand what matters most—identifying risks early and managing them effectively to protect the reputation of the directorate and MPI.* Be a key player in food incident responses, including leadership roles under the Coordinated Incident Management System (CIMS).* Act for the Director as needed, including attending senior level engagements and ensure continuity of leadership.**About You – Mōu**You will be a strategic thinker with a passion for public health and food safety.
