Position Highlights The Department of Speech, Language, & Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona is seeking an open-rank tenured or tenure-eligible faculty member in medical speech-language pathology or audiology who will contribute to the department's research, teaching, and service missions.
This is a 9‑month academic position beginning in August 2026, with rank commensurate with experience.
Responsibilities include scholarship, teaching, and service. Person‑centered approaches to scholarship, teaching, and service are preferred, along with a publication record of high‑impact research and a strong, sustainable funding record appropriate to the level of appointment.
Preferred expertise areas include medical speech‑language pathology or audiology such as dysphagia, cognitive communication disorders, auditory physiology, cochlear implants. Transdisciplinary research in artificial intelligence, data informatics, research design, and statistics is welcomed. Research addressing the needs of a wide demographic breadth is preferred.
The department houses 30 faculty, 104 graduate students in MS, AuD, PhD programs, and 208 undergraduate students.
Collaborations with Banner Medical Center, Tucson Medical Center, Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System, and across university disciplines such as Neuroscience, Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Science, Biomedical Engineering, and Eller College of Business are established.

Duties & Responsibilities Duties and Responsibilities:
The workload is distributed as: 40% scholarly activity/research; 40% teaching; 20% service.
Scholarly Activity and Research:
Establish a successful research program that enhances knowledge in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.
Maintain a consistent record of peer‑reviewed publications and presentations.
Pursue extramural funding.
Mentor undergraduate, graduate, and post‑doctoral fellows from diverse backgrounds.
Teaching:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses.
Provide evidence‑based instruction fostering critical thinking and independent learning.
Develop new courses as assigned.
Provide graduate advising.
Service:
Maintain collegial interactions with students and peers.
Participate effectively on departmental and university committees.
Contribute to student recruitment, admission, and retention.
Hold appointments on national or international scientific, professional, or governmental panels.
Serve in local, state, national, or international groups related to communication disorders.
Minimum Qualifications
Ph.D. in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences or related field.
Expertise in at least one specialization in speech, swallowing, language, hearing, or vestibular sciences.
Record of scholarly works, including peer‑reviewed publications and presentations.
High‑impact research and grant funding record commensurate with appointment level.
Preferred Qualifications
Clinical credential (CCC) in speech‑language pathology or audiology.
Demonstrated mentorship experience commensurate with appointment level.
Interest and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Experience teaching in higher education.
Inclusion of person‑centered approaches to scholarship, teaching, and service.
Research area in a medical specialty of Speech, Language, and Hearing such as dysphagia, TBI, dementia, cleft palate, adult motor speech disorders, cochlear implants, amplification, auditory physiology, pediatric audiology, or psychoacoustics.
