Data Center Engineering Operations Technician Amazon Web Services (AWS) invites you to join its Data Center Engineering Operations team, where you’ll help maintain and operate critical infrastructure systems in some of the world’s most powerful data centers. As an Engineering Operations Technician (EOT), you will work with front‑line responders to test and implement cutting‑edge technology and practices that keep our data centers running reliably 24/7.

Key Job Responsibilities

Daily building rounds to monitor and record information from electrical, mechanical, and fire/life‑safety equipment.

Monitor Building Management Systems (BMS) and Electrical Power Management System (EPMS).

Assist in troubleshooting of facility and rack‑level events within internal Service Level Agreements (SLA).

Perform rack installs and rack decommissioning within internal SLA.

Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, and repair of electrical and mechanical equipment.

Produce technical writing to support the change‑management program.

Track daily work requests, manage to resolution, and execute projects from conception to completion.

Provide on‑site support for contractors, sub‑contractors, and vendors, ensuring all work complies with established practices, procedures, and local legislation.

Work shifts that may rotate on a predefined schedule, including 12‑hour shifts and on‑call rotations, and support more than one location if needed.

Physical Requirements

Regularly lift and/or move up to 39 pounds independently.

Participate in group lifts for 40+ pounds.

Maintain balance and perform construction tasks while on a ladder.

Perform activities such as walking, using hands and fingers, handling or feeling, reaching with hands and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, climbing stairs, twisting, bending, working above shoulders, grasping, carrying, pushing and pulling objects into position.

Work in an environment requiring ear protection.

A Day in the Life This role is Amazon’s front line for hands‑on preventive maintenance (PM) and troubleshooting of mission‑critical data center equipment. You will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot standby diesel generators and related fuel systems, three‑phase electrical systems (switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, wet‑cell batteries), and mechanical equipment such as CRAHU units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, water systems, air handlers, pumps, and motors. You will also support fire/life‑safety equipment, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

Basic Qualifications

Technical (Military or Trade School) training or 2+ years of electrical or mechanical, HVAC, or fire system experience in a mission‑critical infrastructure or equivalent industry.

2+ years of experience with Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

4+ years of Data Center Engineering experience.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree.

Pay is based on location and may vary depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.
