Job Description The engineer will provide innovative solutions to complex problems by leading the development of microsystems that integrate precision sensors, actuators, optics, and/or novel materials. They will work across organizations to contribute technically to existing programs, identify new opportunities, develop innovative concepts, and write competitive proposals. Candidates should have a background in MEMS design, analysis, and/or fabrication, willing to explore new areas. Experience in inertial guidance, magnetic sensing, microfluidic systems, biomedical devices, thermoelectric, microelectronics, spacecraft, energy storage, radiation physics, or related fields is beneficial but not required. The candidate must work effectively in a team, mentor junior engineers, write proposals, and communicate results via reports and presentations. Desired Skills MS or PhD in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science, physics, or related field with 10+ years of experience. Experience designing and fabricating micromechanical devices and systems. Deep multi-physics modeling expertise using tools like COMSOL, ANSYS, Matlab/Simulink, TCAD. Ability to develop creative solutions leveraging MEMS device development, nuclear physics, materials, optics, and related technologies. Experience working with program managers and customers, writing proposals, leading technical teams. Desire to mentor junior staff. Responsibilities Design and develop MEMS devices/sensors, schematics, layouts, and assemblies. Assess performance and process capabilities using modeling or simulation software. Test and evaluate devices using various tools and protocols. Address reliability, yield, and failure issues. Develop manufacturing methods and processes for MEMS. Draft documentation including instructions, specifications, and manuals. Share performance data and operating characteristics for product development and training. Build and maintain internal/external relationships. Drive solutions to complex problems, develop requirements, and adapt to changing needs. Serve as a Subject Matter Expert in the discipline. Provide insights and suggest modifications based on data. Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies. Develop and teach best practices to less experienced engineers. Perform other duties as assigned. Skills and Abilities Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency with fabrication, metrology tools, and device design software. Proficiency with statistical process control, reliability, and failure analysis tools. Education Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics required; Master's preferred. Experience 10-15 years in Microsystems Engineering or related field.
