Who We Are Looking For
We seek to fill the Investigator III (Financial Crimes) position within our Criminal Investigation Division. We are looking for an individual who has experience with law enforcement conducting criminal investigations and employing effective interviewing techniques, with a strong understanding of constitutional protections and the legal standards required for criminal investigations and judicial proceedings
What You'll Be Doing
This professional staff position will work in the Criminal Investigations Division, Financial Crimes Section, within the Police Department, conducting complex criminal financial investigations and providing professional investigative support to other team members.
Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To
Conducting complex criminal financial investigations Working with Assistant States Attorneys and other investigators to prepare cases for trial. Rendering credible testimony in judicial and administrative hearings. Performing case preparation and ongoing case support to the assigned investigative unit or detective. Consulting with counterparts in federal, state, and local jurisdictions Collecting statements and corroborative evidence/documentation regarding complaints. Conducting interviews and interrogations involving victims, witnesses, and those individuals suspected of committing a crime. Preparing and swearing out applicable criminal charging documents, search warrants, and other court filings. Working closely with the Financial Crimes Section supervisor regarding the execution and service of arrest and search warrants to comply with MD Criminal Procedure 1-203. Utilizing investigative data sources to obtain criminal histories, identify information, outside agency reports and other supporting information. Analyzing, interpreting, and summarizing financial records. Writing initial and supplement reports in E-Justice to document investigative activity. Communicating with the victims of financial crimes concerning information regarding their cases. Educating the public, businesses, and organizations about financial crimes and fraud prevention measures.
This position will need an individual with strong written and oral communication skills. The work is primarily sedentary and performed in a standard office environment, typically involving only routine, everyday risks. However, the employee will be required to visit businesses, residences, or other field locations to conduct interviews and collect evidence, where they may be exposed to individuals who exhibit abusive, aggressive, or unpredictable behavior
Minimum Qualifications
Experience:
Three (3) years of experience in a field related to financial transactions, regulations, or relevant legal frameworks.
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, finance, accounting, auditing, forensic investigation, or a related field.
Equivalency:
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted
Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences
Experience in law enforcement conducting criminal investigations and employing effective interviewing techniques, with a strong understanding of constitutional protections and the legal standards required for criminal investigations and judicial proceedings. Experience preparing comprehensive and detailed investigative reports. The candidate possesses investigative certifications relevant to financial crimes such as CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), CFCI (Certified Financial Crimes Investigator), and/or CAMS (Certified Anti Money Laundry Specialist). Experience analyzing financial records and documents. Experience in utilizing financial databases such as FinCEN. Experience using law enforcement databases. Bilingual or multilingual
