RESPONSIBILITIES
Standards Compliance
Maintains current knowledge of and ensures compliance with all regulatory and professional standards of care, including JCAHO, CMS, IHI, CAP, etc.
Utilizes creativity in developing quality/performance improvement programs, instructing staff, and implementing new standards.
Uses results from tracer methodology tools to develop corrective action plans, embedding quality of care into clinical practice.
Operational Performance
Develops, prepares, and monitors budgets for personnel, supplies, and equipment in collaboration with staff and support departments.
Creates long-term staffing schedules and ensures adequate daily coverage.
Monitors operational performance metrics such as LOS, agency and overtime costs, vacancy, and turnover rates.
Clinical Practice/Patient Care
Collaborates with Nurse Executive to establish nursing care standards and evaluate staff compliance.
Identifies research protocols affecting the patient population and keeps staff informed.
Facilitates support services essential to patient care.
Maintains a safe, caring environment conducive to health teaching and positive patient and family expectations.
Develops unit goals aligned with institutional values, with staff input.
Recognizes and models culturally sensitive patient care.
Management
Participates in service planning processes.
Responsible for overall unit planning and operations.
Uses patient and staff satisfaction surveys to develop customer service and staff retention strategies.
Develops effective nursing care plans within the unit.
Addresses patient and family concerns with sensitivity and timeliness.
Conducts monthly staff meetings to discuss equipment, scheduling, goals, and performance metrics.
Human Resource Development/Management
Hires, educates, evaluates, and counsels staff, working with HR as needed.
Provides ongoing education and training opportunities.
Identifies potential successors for Nurse Manager roles.
Creates a supportive environment, promotes professionalism, and encourages continuing education.
Establishes metrics for staff retention and staff development.
Interactive Relationships
Promotes staff empowerment through collaboration and innovation.
Participates in interdisciplinary teams and committees to improve patient care.
Fosters mutual respect and collegial relationships.
Additional
Performs related duties as required. ADA essential functions.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree in Nursing required; Masters preferred.
Current RN license in New York State required.
Minimum of three years nursing experience, including supervisory experience, required.
Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills required.
