Ovation Communities PRIMARY PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Responsible for coordinating, implementing, assessing, and supervising nursing care throughout the facility on all shifts.
Customers/Clients Served By Position
Board members, Staff, Residents, family members, guests, vendors, and other outside clients served by Ovation Communities.
Job Duties
Develops, updates, evaluates and monitors staff compliance with nursing service objectives, standards of nursing practice, nursing policy and procedure manuals, written job descriptions and State, Federal of JCAHO regulations; in-services staff to above when necessary. Provides administrative supervision over any or all residents and Home areas and activities, as necessary. Acts as liaison between the Homes President, Administrator, Medical Director and nursing departments. Plans and budgets for the nursing department, i.e. personnel, equipment, supplies, and services, ensures that appropriate supplies and equipment are available for resident care. Reviews, evaluates and recommends use of new products, instructional materials, services and equipment. Coordinates resident admissions and readmissions process with social service and determines level of care and appropriate floor/room placement, and Medicare eligibility. Monitors completion of MDS/RAPS and the care plan. Coordinates discussion/conferences of nursing service policies and procedures, between nursing and all other departments, to facilitate their introduction and integration into various resident care services. Participates in union activities, negotiations and grievances. Supervises and evaluates utilization of dental, optometry and podiatry services. Supervises laboratory, transportation, consultation and emergency care services provided to residents from outside the Home. Monitors and evaluates pharmacy performance and reviews billing. Coordinates supervision of medical records, central supply and medical services. Reviews documentation on all accident/incident reports and deaths to ensure that appropriate nursing actions were taken, recommends follow-up actions as necessary. Reviews and monitors all medication errors for follow up actions and trends. Acts as a resource person for serious resident/family concerns or changes in condition and participates in direct care nursing to meet emergency needs. Routinely monitors resident care and grooming, room cleanliness and odor, safety and floor organization. Interviews, reviews documentation and recommends hires, suspensions, terminations, leave of absences, loans, changes in position or shifts, inservices/seminars and raises for nursing staff. Ensures that the duties of nursing personnel are clearly defines and assigned to staff members consistent with their level of education, preparations, experience and licensing of each. Reviews and recommends hire or termination of private duty personnel. Reviews all nursing personnel schedules and grants or refuses requests for changes, part-time, over-time, or poor utilization. Approves changes necessary to assure adequate coverage on all shifts. Monitors staff attendance, punctuality and retention and recommends follow-up actions, as necessary. Maintains on-going communication with ADONS, nurse managers and supervisors regarding management problems, floor or shift problems, staff performance, attitudes and morale, staff development, uniforms and personal grooming, special equipment or supplies, etc. Conducts regular nursing meetings with supervisors, nurses and nurse assistants. Ensures nursing personnel, for whom licensure or certification is required, have valid, current licenses/certificates in Wisconsin. Participates in staff motivation programs and events and works toward increasing the understanding and sensitivity between staff and between staff and residents. Facilitates arrangement for M.A.T.C. LPN and nurse assistant training classes. Coordinates nurse assistant instructional and competency programs and monitors the CN class instructor and NA registry status of new nurse assistants. Ensures suitable facility and shift orientation, monitoring, evaluation and follow-up training is provided for all new personnel. Recommends guidelines for in-services/seminars for staff development. Carries out all duties in accordance with the Jewish Home & Care Center mission and person-centered care philosophy. Demonstrates knowledge of and respect for the rights, dignity, and individuality of each resident and facility information. Appreciates the importance of maintaining confidentiality of resident and facility information. Always demonstrates honesty and integrity in the care and use of resident and facility property. Able to understand and to follow written and verbal direction. Able to effectively communicate with staff members and residents through verbal and/or written means. Able to interact effectively with all residents. Knowledge of emergency and disaster procedures of facility. Able to locate nearest exit, to understand and respond to written or verbal instruction in case of emergency. Sufficient mobility, and strength to move freely through the building, to assure resident safety at all times and to assist, transfer, or otherwise move residents out of danger in case of emergency. Demonstrates respect for co-workers and responds to needs of residents by complying with facility policies on attendance and punctuality and dress code. Able to arrive and to begin work on time and to report for duty as scheduled on all shifts, weekends, and/or holidays. Working knowledge and ability to comply with facility policies and procedures for workplace safety including infection control procedure, application of universal precautions for blood borne pathogens, use of personal protective equipment and handling of hazardous materials. Able to respond to change productively and to handle additional tasks and projects as assigned. Able to carry out the essential functions of this job (without reasonable accommodation) without posing specific, current risk of substantial harm to health and safety of self and others. Working knowledge and ability to apply standards of professional nursing practice in job situations. Able to develop nursing policies and procedures that reflect current clinical practice, professional standards and facility philosophy of care. Knowledge of and ability to coordinate facility, State and Federal criteria in evaluation of applicants for admission to facility. Demonstrates satisfactory level of interpersonal skill to interact with facility administration, community and government agencies, and interdisciplinary staff. Current knowledge of State and Federal laws and regulations that apply to practice or nursing in long term care. Able to respond to facility needs on an on-call basis, able to perform the essential functions of a unit nurse if needed.
Qualifications
Experience: Minimum of two years supervisory experience and/or education
Education: High school diploma or equivalent
RN Degree
Licenses & Certifications: Current licensure in the State of Wisconsin Registered Nurse
Other: Must maintain complete confidentiality and discretion. Read, write and speak the English language.
