Mountain View, CA Mechanical Engineer - Test Fixture Designer As a Mechanical Engineer - Fixture Designer at Lunar, you will be responsible for the full product development lifecycle of mechanical systems within our revolutionary home energy products. On a given day at Lunar, you’ll likely… Work back and forth with collaborators across the company to continuously refine and improve our understanding of how our products can create the greatest impact, get to market quickly, and operate reliably for our customers Brainstorm and evaluate new solutions, weigh pros and cons, and narrow down options Efficiently test ideas and designs: anything from back-of-the-envelope calculations to physical tests and multi-physics simulations Design high-performance, reliable, easy-to-manufacture parts and assemblies, employing a variety of high-volume manufacturing processes Create and review drawings and other part specifications Manage bills of materials, cost and mass roll-ups, vendors and engineering releases Define manufacturing processes and inspection methods Collaborate directly with part manufacturers to support prototypes and production Desired Skills/Experience Mechanical Design Extensive experience in 3D Modeling software (e.g. Onshape, NX, Solidworks) Detailed knowledge of 2D Drawing creation and GD&T Ability to analyze designs using Tolerance Analysis/Stackup, Statics/Load Path Analysis, Finite Element Analysis, Root Cause Analysis and Design Failure Modes and Effect Analysis Familiarity with electronic test equipment and basic electromechanical troubleshooting Experience with test fixtures, jigs, and various mechanical components Experience with fine pitch assemblies and construction. Experience with PCBA management such as Mechanical Control Outline generation Working knowledge of pneumatic cylinders and control methods Working knowledge of Thermal Management techniques Prototyping skills using 3D printing, machining, sheet metal bending, laser cutting, milling and general machine shop tools Manage suppliers for all the parts which are required for our station construction. Manufacturing Support Experience communicating with component suppliers including Design for Manufacturing report review, First Article Inspection, and Part Production Approval Process Ability to generate Work Instructions for electromechanical assemblies Knowledge of Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis Extensive experience with Onsite Build Support at domestic and international contract manufacturing sites . Approximate 10-20% travel as and when required. Communication Ability to generate detailed design documentation Drive a project from start to deployment involving other cross functional teams, vendors, technicians etc. Ability to collaborate with other engineers (electrical engineers, automated test engineers, etc..)
