The Surgical Technologist demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to function in the scrub role during surgical procedures performed in the department. The Surgical Technologist is experienced in all aspects of aseptic technique, setting up the required equipment and sterile supplies, pulling cases as needed, and breaking down cases at the end of the procedure. The candidate is knowledgeable regarding instrumentation, equipment, and supply needs for all types of surgical procedures. The Surgical Technologist may come in contact with medications and must understand proper medication management and storage as well as maintaining a secure medication environment. The Surgical Technologist may rotate to other areas and will perform those duties for which they have demonstrated competency. The role follows SRMC policy and procedures and supports the values and mission of SRMC. The Surgical Technologist may function as a preceptor after completing the SRMC Preceptor Course.
